Enhanced Adhesion in Battery Electrode Production
Here’s PatSnap Eureka !
Summary
Problems
The existing methods for producing battery electrodes result in decreased adhesive strength between the current collector and the compound material layer due to binder segregation during the drying process, leading to poor battery performance.
Innovation solutions
A method is introduced where a binder solution layer is formed on the current collector before applying the compound material paste, ensuring a high amount of binder is retained at the interface between the current collector and the compound material layer, even during drying, by maintaining a phase-separated state and adjusting viscosities and solubility parameters to inhibit mixing.
TRIZ Analysis
Specific contradictions:
General conflict description:
Principle concept:
If a compound material paste containing binder is coated onto current collector and dried, then the compound material layer is formed on the current collector, but binder segregates to the surface layer during drying, decreasing adhesive strength between current collector and compound material layer
Why choose this principle:
The patent applies a binder solution to the current collector before coating the compound material paste. This preliminary action ensures that the current collector surface is pre-coated with binder, so even if binder segregates during subsequent drying, adequate binder remains at the interface between the current collector and the compound material layer, maintaining adhesive strength.
Principle concept:
If a compound material paste containing binder is coated onto current collector and dried, then the compound material layer is formed on the current collector, but binder segregates to the surface layer during drying, decreasing adhesive strength between current collector and compound material layer
Why choose this principle:
The patent introduces a binder solution as an intermediary layer between the current collector and the compound material paste. This intermediary layer acts as a buffer that ensures continuous presence of binder at the interface, mediating the adhesive relationship even when the original binder in the paste segregates during drying.

Abstract
According to the present invention, provided is a method for producing a battery electrode employing a configuration in which a compound material layer containing an active material 22 and a binder 54 is retained on a current collector 10 . The formation of the compound material layer is carried out by a method including: a step of forming a binder solution layer 56 by applying a binder solution 50 containing the first binder 54 to the current collector 10 ; a step of depositing the binder solution layer 56 and a compound material paste layer 46 on the current collector 10 by applying the compound material paste 40 over the binder solution layer 56 ; and a step of obtaining an electrode in which the compound material layer is formed on the current collector 10 by drying both the binder solution layer 56 and the compound material paste 40.
