Abstract

A method for enhancing the activity of a transcription factor in a plant comprises expressing in said plant a chimeric protein comprising a GIF molecular fraction comprising a GIF domain or a fragment thereof and a DNA-binding domain (DBD) molecular fraction. The chimeric proteins comprise a GIF molecular fraction comprising a GIF domain or fragment thereof, or a polypeptide with an amino acid sequence having at least 85%, preferably at least 90%, and even more preferably at least 95% sequence identity with the amino acid sequence of a GIF domain or fragment thereof; and a DBD molecular fraction comprising a DBD or plant transcription factor whose activity enhancement is sought, or a binding protein capable of forming a tertiary complex with the DBD or transcription factor whose activity modification and / or enhancement is sought. It also refers to polynucleotides and polypeptides useful in the method of the present.

Claims

1. A method for enhancing the activity of a transcription factor in a plant, the method being characterized in that it comprises transforming a plant cell of said plant with a nucleic acid encoding a chimeric protein comprising a GIF1 protein having SEQ ID NO.: 1 fused to the transcription factor, wherein the chimeric protein has an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO.: 18, SEQ ID NO.: 21, SEQ ID NO.: 24, SEQ ID NO.: 30, and SEQ ID NO.33, excluding the plant obtained by said method, wherein the transcription factor is selected from the group consisting of Growth Regulation Factor 3 (GRF3), a GRF3 transgene insensitive to regulation by microRNA miR396 (rGRF3), SHOOT MERISTEMLESS (STM), and TCP2, wherein TCP is: TEOSINTE BRANCHED1 from Zea mays, CYCLOIDEA from Antirrhinum majus; and PCF 1 and 2 from Oryza sativa 2; and wherein the enhanced activity of the transcription factor is relative to the activity of the transcription factor not fused to GIF1.
