PROCEDURES AND DEVICES FOR FORMING KNURLING FOR CLOSURES

Claims

This specification describes a device and system for forming knurling. The device may include a knurling applicator mandrel for thermoformed polyester resin closures. The mandrel may include an upper adapter configured to interface with a capping machine; a lower portion having a through-hole extending through it to capture and retain a polyester resin closure; and a plurality of jaws received between the upper adapter plate and the lower plate, where each jaw includes a plurality of inwardly oriented radial teeth configured to create knurling on an outer surface of the closure when the mandrel rotates in a first direction during a capping process, and to release the closure when the mandrel rotates in a second direction.
