Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a method for treating an infection in a mammal caused by an infectious agent which binds a receptor of an angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2), leading to its decreased tissue levels. The method includes administering and ACE-2 reducing component to a mammal in a therapeutically effective amount to reduce the amount of the angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2 receptor) in the mammal. Also provided is a method for reducing Furin and TMPRSS2 in an infected mammal or a mammal which may become infected. Also, the present disclosure provides a way to avoid or mitigate a cytokine storm caused by an infectious agent, by reducing the ACE-1 or maintaining ACE-1 to maintain or reduced the ACE-1 to ACE-2 ratio to avoid a cytokine storm
