AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing box folding machines struggle to efficiently reduce the height of boxes of varying sizes without manual adjustments, leading to complex and costly operations, and methods like cutting or scoring compromise box strength and generate waste.
Method used
A system comprising an elevator, end pushers, and side pushers that automatically fold the end and side walls of boxes within a range of sizes, using angled surfaces and rounded edges to fold the walls inward without cutting, ensuring compatibility with different box dimensions.
Benefits of technology
Enables efficient and automated folding of boxes of various sizes, reducing height while maintaining structural integrity, eliminating waste, and simplifying the folding process.

Abstract
A system folds boxes of a variety of sizes. The system includes an elevator and two end pushers. Each of the end pushers has a bottom surface, an angled surface, and a rounded edge between the bottom and angled surfaces. The end pushers are arranged with the bottom surfaces substantially horizontal and the angled surfaces oriented toward each other and with an angle of advancement of the angled surface being less than 90 degrees. A width of each end pusher is wider than a maximum box width. The elevator lifts the box to a first vertical position between the end pushers where horizontal scores on the box are below the bottom surfaces. As the end pushers move toward each other, they contact upper portions of the end walls and across a width of the box to fold the upper portions of the end walls inward about the horizonal scores.
