Abstract
The Gravity-Powered Renewable Lighting System is an innovative and sustainable lighting solution that harnesses gravitational energy to generate electricity. Designed to address energy scarcity in off-grid and rural communities, the device comprises a weight bag, a pulley system, a series of gears, and a dynamo connected to LED lights. When the weight bag (12-15 kg) is lifted to a height of five feet, its slow descent converts gravitational potential energy into rotational energy. This rotational energy drives the dynamo to produce electricity, powering the LEDs. Unlike traditional lighting systems, the Gravity-Powered Renewable Lighting System requires no fuel, batteries, or external power sources, making it a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to kerosene lamps. The device produces 36 lumens—three times the brightness of a conventional kerosene lamp- and can operate for up to 20 minutes per lift. With zero operational costs and a robust construction, the Gravity-Powered Renewable Lighting System is designed to last 15 years with minimal maintenance. By offering a clean, reliable, and affordable lighting solution, the Gravity-Powered Renewable Lighting System addresses the limitations of existing renewable technologies and aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Its innovative design and practical application make it an essential tool for underserved communities, promoting sustainable energy adoption and improving quality of life.
