Abstract
The present invention relates to a metallic portable double-mouth Improved Cook Stove (ICS), named Unan, designed to enhance thermal efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and minimize indoor air pollution. The invention addresses key shortcomings of traditional and existing ICS models, such as low efficiency, high emissions, and limited durability, by incorporating innovative features and usercentric design. Unan achieves 40% thermal efficiency, surpassing the 30% average of conventional ICS, through the integration of advanced structural and functional components. At its core is a double-layered metallic construction consisting of an inner layer made of cast iron for durability under high-heat conditions, an outer layer of stainless steel for corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal, and a 1-inch refractory blanket placed between these layers to minimize heat loss and maximize fuel economy. A key innovation is the heat emphasizer, a metallic extension strategically positioned beneath the second cooking mouth. This emphasizer directs flue gases to strike the bottom of the pot on the second burner, significantly enhancing heat transfer and enabling efficient secondary cooking without additional fuel. The double-mouth configuration allows simultaneous cooking, making it ideal for rural households. Unan’s lightweight and robust construction ensures portability, allowing users to shift between indoor and outdoor cooking depending on seasonal and cultural needs. The stove also features a chimney system for the safe expulsion of flue gases, reducing indoor air pollution and protecting users’ health. The design is tested using the Water Boiling Test protocol v4.2.4, demonstrating its superior efficiency and practicality. By reducing biomass consumption, lowering emissions, and providing a durable and scalable solution, Unan supports sustainable cooking practices, environmental conservation, and public health improvements. Its affordability and reliance on locally available materials make it an ideal choice for mass adoption in resource-constrained regions, advancing global efforts toward clean energy and health equity.
