Description
1 / 9 PIPE AND VEHICLE FASTENING DEVICE Field of Invention
[0001] The present invention is situated in the field of cooling systems for vehicles, more specifically in the development of a pipe fastening device. Background of the Invention
[0002] Vehicle engine cooling systems are designed to ensure thermal stability and proper engine performance, preventing overheating and increasing the durability of internal components. One of the essential elements of this system is the degassing pipe, whose function is to remove air bubbles present in the coolant, improving system efficiency and preventing problems such as water pump cavitation and the formation of hot spots in the engine.
[0003] The Stellantis platform vehicles, T3 and T4 versions, originally adopted the Air-to-Air Charge Air Cooler (ACAC) cooling concept. However, aiming for performance improvements, it became necessary to migrate to the Water-Cooled Charge Air Cooler (WCAC) concept. This change in scope was determined at an advanced stage of the project, requiring significant adaptations to accommodate the new components without compromising the structural integrity of the vehicle or negatively impacting production costs.
[0004] One of the main difficulties associated with the transition from ACAC to WCAC is related to the mounting of the degassing tube inside the engine compartment. Due to the reduced space and the need to avoid interference with other components, conventional mounting solutions have proven problematic. Typically, mounting points are established on structures such as the Front-End Module (FEM) or Top Hat (TH) components. However, these options have disadvantages, as mounting the degassing tube on the FEM may require additional structural modifications, compromising the rigidity of the assembly and potentially requiring reinforcements, increasing the total weight of the vehicle. Furthermore, any adaptation to the TH or FEM components may entail additional development, tooling, and assembly costs, making the implementation of the new solution economically unfeasible.Another relevant factor is that the need to modify existing structures can increase the complexity of the assembly process, resulting in longer production times and risks of non-conformity on the assembly line. Petition 870250013263, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 9 / 22 2 / 9
[0005] Given these limitations, it became necessary to find an alternative that would allow the degassing tube to be fixed while respecting space constraints and avoiding negative impacts on the FEM and TH components. The solution should minimize costs and simplify implementation within the project scope, ensuring compatibility with WCAC versions T3 and T4.
[0006] Based on these challenges, the present invention proposes a new fixing point for the degassing piping, using the MFS / GMV structural ring as a base for fixing the component. This approach allows the installation of the pipe in a limited space, taking advantage of the geometry of the structural ring to create an optimized fixation without the need for modifications to adjacent components. Furthermore, this solution reduces design impacts, ensuring that the cooling system parts can be integrated efficiently and at reduced cost.
[0007] Some prior art documents have attempted to solve this problem, as can be seen below:
[0008] JP2019043165 - This prior art discloses an engine cooling structure designed to optimize hose assembly, ensuring vibration resistance. The invention comprises inlet and outlet pipes extending from the engine, with corresponding hoses connected to the radiator. A clamping device keeps the inlet and outlet hoses firmly positioned in their parallel section, increasing the stability and durability of the assembly.
[0009] EP1847755 - The invention describes a mounting structure for radiator hoses in a vehicle, in which the hoses are securely attached to a suspension component that is elastically supported by a vibration damping element. This configuration ensures a stable connection between the control source and the suspension system, minimizing vibrations and consequently improving the durability and performance of the cooling system.
[0010] EP3475600 - The patent describes a fastening assembly for radiator hoses in a vehicle, consisting of a support plate fixed to the vehicle body and a fastening mechanism. This mechanism includes a ring that secures the coolant supply pipe and a fastening tab anchored to the support plate, ensuring a stable and reliable connection. Petition 870250013263, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 10 / 22 3 / 9
[0011] Existing solutions fail to develop a pipe fastening device that combines structural stability, vibration resistance, and ease of assembly without impacting other vehicle components. The present invention proposes to solve these limitations by offering a technical alternative that ensures secure fastening, reduces implementation costs, and optimizes the integration of the cooling system in an efficient and functional manner. Objectives of the Invention
[0012] The present invention has as its main objective to provide an optimized solution for fixing the degassing pipe to the MFS / GMV structural ring, ensuring compatibility with the Stellantis hatchback and SUV platform in the T3 and T4 versions.
[0013] Another objective of the invention is to reduce implementation costs by avoiding the need for modifications to the Front-End Module (FEM) and Top Hat (TH), allowing the WCAC system to be adapted without impacting the existing vehicle structure.

The MFS / GMV is used as a base for attaching the degassing tube, allowing for optimized assembly without the need for additional structural modifications.
[0051] Within the scope of the present invention, the Stellantis hatchback and SUV T3 and T4 platform corresponds to a specific vehicle architecture that defines the standards for the design, integration and assembly of vehicle components.
[0052] In the context of the present invention, the Front-End Module (FEM) refers to a structural subassembly located at the front of the vehicle, responsible for housing various components, including the cooling system, headlights, structural reinforcements, and other engine compartment elements. The FEM plays a fundamental role in vehicle rigidity and the integration of essential parts, but its modification can generate structural impacts and additional costs. The present invention avoids the need to attach the degassing pipe to the FEM, reducing interference and facilitating the implementation of the solution without altering this module.
[0053] In the context of the present invention, the Top Hat (TH) refers to the upper structure of the vehicle body, which includes components such as structural reinforcements, supports for hood elements, and parts related to the attachment of engine components and cooling system. Changes to the TH can create challenges in structural design and increase assembly complexity. The present invention proposes a solution that avoids interference with the TH, ensuring that the degassing pipe is efficiently attached to the MFS / GMV structural ring without compromising the integrity of the vehicle. Petition 870250013263, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, p. 15 / 22 8 / 9
[0054] The present invention fulfills the proposed objectives by providing an optimized solution for attaching the degassing tube to the MFS / GMV structural ring, ensuring a safe and efficient installation without impacting critical components such as the Front-End Module (FEM) and the Top Hat (TH). By utilizing the existing geometry of the MFS / GMV structural ring, the invention eliminates the need for additional structural modifications, reducing production costs and facilitating implementation within the Stellantis hatchback and SUV T3 and T4 platform. Furthermore, the proposed solution ensures that the degassing tube remains correctly positioned even under adverse operating conditions, such as thermal variations and vehicle vibrations, promoting the reliability and proper performance of the cooling system. Thus, the invention achieves the objectives of compatibility, economy, and efficiency, guaranteeing a robust and interference-free attachment with other vehicle components.
