Description

1 / 13 Insecticidal composition, process and method for pest control with etiprole and pyriproxyfen. Technical Sector.

[01] This invention discloses an insecticide composed of etiprole and pyriproxyfen in effective quantities as a means of controlling unwanted pests, and is situated in the field of plant preservation products and / or plant parts thereof. State of the Art.

[02] The decline in agricultural production due to the presence of insects is a problem in which science is constantly working to find solutions that aim to help farmers minimize losses and maximize the productive yield of their crops, since the use of insecticides and pesticides is increasingly employed and this has made pests resistant to control, a fact that forces the growth of the demand for conducting trials to improve plant treatment.

[03] One way to contribute to plant treatment is revealed here with the application of an insecticide composed of etiprole and pyriproxyfen in quantities effective for protecting plants, plant propagation materials and their growing environment against pest attack and infestation.

[04] The combined use of two active ingredients with different mechanisms of action reduces the risk of resistance development by pests, as insect populations have less chance of adapting simultaneously to both modes of action. Summary of the Invention.

[05] This invention relates to a compound that aims to control pests and involves the application of effective amounts of insecticide comprising the combination of pyriproxyfen and etiprole in effective quantities to a plant, Petition 870250013436, dated 19 / 02 / 2025, page 5 / 22 2 / 13 plant propagation materials, growing environment, pests or their food source, habitat or growing sites.

[06] As the first active ingredient in this composition, etiprole is an insecticide from the phenylpyrazole group, commonly used in the control of agricultural pests. Etiprole acts as an antagonist of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-mediated chloride channels in insect nerve cells. It blocks these ion channels, preventing chloride ions from entering the cells. This results in overstimulation of nerve cells, leading to hyperactivity, paralysis, and eventually, the death of the insect. This mode of action directly affects the central nervous system of insects, being effective against a wide range of pests, such as beetles, bedbugs, and other sucking and chewing insects. It is a strategic option for the efficient management of pests, especially in situations where there is resistance or a need to prolong the effectiveness of control.

[07] As the second active ingredient in this composition, pyriproxyfen is a growth regulator insecticide, widely used in the control of agricultural pests and disease vectors, such as mosquitoes and whiteflies. It belongs to the class of juvenile hormone analogues and has characteristics that make it especially effective in integrated pest management. Pyriproxyfen acts as an analogue of juvenile hormone (JH), which is essential for the normal development of insects. It interferes with the life cycle of pests, affecting immature stages such as eggs, larvae, and pupae. It minimizes the use of conventional chemical insecticides and preserves the natural enemies of pests.

[08] This mixture combines the benefits of two distinct mechanisms of action, providing a highly effective pest control strategy by combining two modes Petition 870250013436, dated 19 / 02 / 2025, page 6 / 22 3 / 13 of complementary action. Each compound acts differently on insects, broadening the spectrum of control and providing more consistent and lasting results.

[09] The combination of etiprole and pyriproxyfen offers multiple actions, resulting in effective control over both juvenile and adult forms of pests, thus reducing the chances of re-infestation. While etiprole kills adult insects, pyriproxyfen drastically reduces reproduction by preventing the development of immature forms, controlling future generations. This is especially useful for rapidly multiplying pests such as bed bugs and whiteflies. The residual action of pyriproxyfen, which can continue to act for several weeks, combined with the effectiveness of etiprole, offers long-lasting control, reducing the need for frequent reapplications. The combination can be integrated into integrated pest management programs, allowing for the rational use of insecticides and minimizing the impact on natural enemies and pollinators. Pyriproxyfen, in particular, has less impact on beneficial insects because it targets the immature stages of pests.

[10] This invention also relates to the use of an insecticide composed of etiprole and pyriproxyfen in effective quantities for the control of selected pests from the order Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera and Diptera.

[11] This invention also aims to provide a composition that can be used at lower dosage rates compared to other insecticides and insecticidal compositions, in order to avoid adverse toxicological or environmental effects.

[12] In addition to the aspects already mentioned in the paragraphs above, this invention relates to the use of etiprole and pyriproxyfen in effective quantities as an insecticide for Petition 870250013436, dated 19 / 02 / 2025, page 7 / 22 4 / 13 Protect avocado, pineapple, pumpkin, zucchini, cotton, garlic, peanut, annonaceae, rice, potato, sweet potato, yacon, eggplant, beet, cocoa, coffee, cashew, sugarcane, persimmon, yam, carambola, onion, carrot, shallot, chayote, citrus, cupuaçu, duboisia, pea, bean, fig, tobacco, gerbera, guava, chickpea, guarana, taro, eggplant, lentil, apple, macadamia, papaya, cassava, arracacha, mango, mangaba, passion fruit, gherkin, watermelon, melon, millet, corn, turnip, pastures, cucumber, pepper, bell pepper, okra, kiwi, radish, cabbage, pomegranate, rose, soybean, sorghum, tomato and grape plants, their plant propagation material or their growing environment, from attack or infestation by pests. selected from Bemisia tabaci race B, Thrips palmi, Leucoptera coffeella, Diaphorina citri, Orthezia praelonga, Selenaspidus articulatus, Bemisia tabaci, Frankliniella schultzei, Anthonomus grandis, Oryzophagus oryzae, Hypothenemus hampei, Heterotermes tenuis,Mahanarva fimbriolata, Dichelops melacanthus, Nezara viridula, Piezodorus guildinii, Dalbulus maidis, Euschistus heros and their aggregations.

[13] Pests, and especially insects of the orders Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, and Diptera, ruin harvested and growing crops, causing large economic losses in the food chain. A major threat in relation to these pests, Nezara viridula, feeds directly on the pods, sucks the grains, and can cause a drop in productivity, a reduction in grain quality, or inject toxins, causing deformities in the plants. With regard to soybeans, this damage can affect up to 30% of productivity and losses of up to 2 billion dollars per harvest. For corn, productivity losses can reach 20% and losses of 900 million dollars. In cotton, this pest can lead to losses of 500 million dollars with a decrease of about 25% in productivity. Pest resistance to insecticides and double insecticide compositions already Petition 870250013436, dated 19 / 02 / 2025, page 8 / 22 The fact that 5 / 13 of existing pests is one of the biggest challenges for large-scale crop farming. It is known in the field that products planted on a large scale, such as soybeans, sugarcane, corn, and cotton, are particularly vulnerable to attack or infestation by insect pests of the orders Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, and Diptera.

[14] The composition of etiprole and pyriproxyfen produces evident synergistic effects in which the active ingredients do not conflict with each other, which reduces the amount of product needed when applied to crops and lowers the costs of other insecticides.

[15] The mixture is formulated to maximize the synergy between the active ingredients, enhancing pest control and minimizing the chance of pest resistance. The composition of the present invention facilitates application, as ready-mixed blends combine different active ingredients in a single formulation, which reduces the number of applications required and simplifies pest management. This saves time, labor, and reduces operational complexity. With this mixture, there is no need for tank mixing, which reduces errors and provides greater safety in the risks of dosage errors and chemical incompatibilities, ensuring greater product efficacy. In addition, it has multiple control to act on different pests simultaneously, broadening the spectrum of action and providing greater crop protection with a single application.

[16] As used herein, the term “pest resistance” means resistance of pest insects to other insecticides and insecticide mixtures.

[17] As a result, selected plants can be efficiently protected against these pests, in order to avoid a reduction in crop yield. In this particular case, it is an important benefit of the composition, Petition 870250013436, dated 19 / 02 / 2025, page 9 / 22 6 / 13 according to this invention, the composition is also suitable for controlling the pests mentioned above in case of resistance to conventional insecticides or insecticidal compositions.

[18] The combination of etiprole and pyriproxyfen offers a robust solution against difficult-to-control pests, with fast and long-lasting action at different life stages of the insects. In addition, it reduces resistance pressure and improves the efficiency of integrated pest management, resulting in fewer applications and greater sustainability in the field.
