Description
Descriptive Report of Invention Patent Tablet for Forming a Liquid Dishwashing Composition and Method for Forming a Liquid for Hand Dishwashing Field of Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a dishwashing tablet, in particular a tablet for forming a liquid cleaning composition for hand dishwashing. History of the Invention
[0002] Despite the previous technique, there remains a need for improved dishwashing tablets. Consumers expect a tablet to dissolve quickly in water to form a cleaning composition for hand dishwashing. It is also highly desirable that the tablet provide an indication to consumers that dissolution is occurring, and foam formation is a crucial performance indicator. Description of the Invention
[0003] Consequently, and in a first aspect, a tablet is provided to form a liquid dishwashing composition dissolved in water comprising: - from 0.1% to 40% by weight of surfactant; - an effervescent; - a salt of an acid selected from sodium bisulfate, monosodium phosphate, and a mixture thereof; and - a disintegrant.
[0004] In a dishwashing context, a tablet is a unit-dose product that forms a cleaning composition when dissolved in water. Typically, such a tablet comprises a surfactant and a disintegrating agent. In use, the consumer places the tablet in water and stirs the mixture until the tablet is completely dissolved and the cleaning liquid is ready. Petition 870220101156, dated 01 / 11 / 2022, page 5 / 25 2 / 6 of the dishwashing load will be formed.
[0005] Many consumers like to watch the tablet dissolve in water and do not want to manually agitate the composition for an extended period of time before the tablet is completely dissolved and the cleaning composition is ready for use. They look for an indication of when the cleaning composition is ready for use. One possible solution is to add an effervescent agent to the tablet. The effervescent agent generates effervescence during dissolution, providing an indication to consumers that dissolution is occurring. Furthermore, the cessation of effervescence indicates to consumers that the composition is ready for use. However, it is observed that in the presence of the surfactant and disintegrating agent, conventional effervescent agents are not effective and the effervescence rate is slow. Thus, consumers need to wait for a long period of time before they can start using the composition. Therefore, it is desirable for the tablet to effervesce quickly, thus reducing the waiting time.
[0006] Surprisingly, it was found that the tablet according to the present invention comprising an acid salt is capable of generating rapid effervescence in water and is able to provide an indication to consumers about the formation of the cleaning composition.
[0007] The present invention provides a tablet for forming a liquid dishwashing composition when dissolved in water. The tablet comprises from 0.1% to 40% by weight of surfactant, an effervescent agent, an acid salt selected from sodium bisulfate, monosodium phosphate and mixtures thereof, and a disintegrating agent.
[0008] Preferably, the surfactant is present from 1% to 30% by weight and more preferably from 5% to 25% by weight of the tablet.
[0009] Preferably, the surfactant is selected from anionic surfactant, nonionic surfactant, and a mixture thereof. A preferred anionic surfactant is a primary alkyl sulfate. Petition 870220101156, dated 01 / 11 / 2022, page 6 / 25 3 / 6
[0010] The effervescent agent generates effervescence during the dissolution of the tablet and provides an indication to the consumer. Preferably, the effervescent agent is present in 10% to 50% of the tablet's weight. More preferably, the effervescent agent is present in 15% to 45% of the tablet's weight, and even more preferably in 20% to 40% of the tablet's weight.
[0011] Preferably, the effervescent agent is selected from a carbonate salt, a bicarbonate salt, or mixtures thereof. A preferred effervescent is sodium bicarbonate.
[0012] The tablet comprises an acid salt for faster effervescence during dissolution of the tablet in water. Acid salts herein refer to a group of salts that form acidic solutions in water. Preferably, these are inorganic salts and are formed by incomplete neutralization of divalent or trivalent acids.
[0013] Preferably, the acid salt is present from 10% to 50% by weight of the tablet. More preferably, the acid salt is present from 15% to 45% by weight and even more preferably from 20% to 40% by weight of the tablet.
[0014] Preferably, the ratio between the effervescent agent and the acid salt is from 5:1 to 1:5 by weight. More preferably, the ratio between the effervescent agent and the acid salt is from 3:1 to 1:3 by weight. A preferred ratio between the effervescent agent and the acid salt is 1:1 by weight.
[0015] The acid salt is selected from sodium bisulfate, monosodium phosphate and a mixture thereof.
[0016] Preferably, the tablet comprises a disintegrant to enhance dissolution by disintegration of the tablet in water. Without wanting to limit ourselves to theory, it is believed that disintegrants are a group of compounds present in tablets, which undergo physical or chemical changes when in contact with water, thus aiding in the breaking of the tablets. Details about disintegrants can be found in reference books related to tablets or tablet processing, for example, Petition 870220101156, dated 01 / 11 / 2022, page 7 / 25 4 / 6 “Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms: Tablets” Vol 1, edited by Herbert A Liebermann, Second Edition, Marcel Dekker, Inc., 1989 (Chapter 3, Pages 159 to 179).
[0017] Preferably, the disintegrant is present from 5% to 40% by weight of the tablet. More preferably, the disintegrant is present from 10% to 35% by weight and even more preferably from 15% to 30% by weight of the tablet.
[0018] Preferably, the disintegrating agent is selected from polyvinylpyrrolidone, microcrystalline cellulose, and a mixture thereof. A preferred disintegrating agent is polyvinylpyrrolidone.
[0019] Consequently, and in a second aspect, a method is provided for forming a washing liquid by depositing a tablet according to the first aspect in water and, optionally, stirring.
[0020] Preferably, the ratio between the tablet and water to form the washing liquid varies from 1:10 to 1:100 by weight. EXAMPLES
[0021] The following are formulations for the preparation of a tablet composition to form a composition for hand dishwashing when in use. Table 1 Component Formulation A (% w / w) Formulation 1 (% w / w) PAS 15.83 15.98 CMEA 4.95 5.00 Sodium bicarbonate 29.67 29.47 Sodium bisulfate 0 29.47 Citric acid 29.67 0 Disintex 75 19.78 19.98 Silica + Perfume + Tincture 0.1 0.1 Petition 870220101156, dated 01 / 11 / 2022, page 8 / 25 5 / 6
[0022] Formulation 1 is a formulation according to the invention and formulation A is a comparative.
[0023] Manufacturing process:
[0024] All components were used as dry powder and were mixed to the appropriate weight according to Table 1. A measured amount (2.5 grams) of the powder mixture was poured into a mold and pressed using a rotary press or hydraulic press. After some time, the tablet was ejected from the mold and stored in a container.
[0025] Test methodology for measuring decay time:
[0026] A tablet weighing 2.5 grams was placed in a beaker containing 40 milliliters of water, and thus the tablet disintegrated into smaller granules and dissolved. The time for the tablet to disintegrate to a size smaller than 1 millimeter was recorded as the disintegration time.
[0027] Test methodology for evaluating foam formation:
[0028] Foam formation was evaluated by measuring the amount of foam generated by the tablet's foam formation during dissolution in water. A tablet was placed in a graduated cylinder containing 50 milliliters of water and allowed to foam. The volume of foam was measured after 60 seconds. If the foam volume was greater than 30 milliliters, foam formation was considered good. A foam volume of 10 to 30 milliliters was considered moderate foam formation, and less than 10 milliliters was considered low foam formation.
[0029] Evaluation of formulations: Table 2 Formulation Formulation A Formulation 1 Disintegration time (seconds) 150 30 Foam formation Moderate Good
[0030] Table 2 shows that formulation 1 takes significantly less time to disintegrate and generates a good amount of foam compared to formulation A. This implies that formulation 1 dissolves Petition 870220101156, dated 01 / 11 / 2022, page 9 / 25 6 / 6 quickly, generating a good amount of effervescence compared to formulation A.
