AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

3GPP networks struggle to effectively monitor and compensate for the degrading effects of out-of-scope network segments in heterogeneous E2E paths, particularly in tethered connections used for interactive and immersive applications like AR/VR, which affect the overall quality of service (QoS) due to additional latency and reduced effectiveness of QoS rules.

Method used

A data collection application function and client are introduced to expose link delay performance events by receiving and processing measurements from tethered connections, enabling 3GPP networks to adapt QoS rules and policies based on these metrics.

Benefits of technology

Enhances user experience in AR/VR applications by allowing 3GPP networks to monitor and adapt to out-of-scope network segments, ensuring compliance with stringent latency and reliability requirements.

Abstract

There is provided herein a method performed by a data collection application function, the method for exposure of link delay performance events for an application experienced via a tethered connection between a first device and a second device, the method comprising; receiving a configuration for a data access profile for data collection, the data concerning a link delay in the tethered connection; and applying the data access profile to at least one data collection client. The method further comprises: receiving collected link delay measurements from the at least one data collection client; processing the link delay measurements based in part on the data access profile to produce one or more link delay performance events; and exposing the one or more link delay performance events corresponding to the application experienced via the tethered connection.
