Description

/ 19 PRE-FORM PACKAGING, AND PACKAGING TECHNICAL FIELD

[001] The present invention relates to a packaging preform, in particular having a multi-layered structure, for forming a package filled with a pourable product, in particular a pourable food product.

[002] Advantageously, the present invention also relates to a package filled with a pourable product, in particular a pourable food product, and which is formed from a pre-form packaging. FUNDAMENTALS OF THE TECHNIQUE

[003] As is known, various pourable or liquid food products, such as fruit juice, UHT milk (treated at an ultra-high temperature), wine, tomato sauce, etc., are sold in packaging made of sterilized packaging material.

[004] A typical example is the parallelepiped-shaped packaging for liquid or pourable food products known as Tetra Brik Aseptic (registered trademark), which is produced by sealing and folding a laminated packaging preform. The packaging preform has a multi-layered structure comprising a base layer, for example, of paper or cardboard, covered on both sides with layers of heat-sealable plastic material, for example, polyethylene. In the case of aseptic packaging for long-shelf-life products, such as UHT milk, the packaging preform also comprises a layer of oxygen barrier material (an oxygen barrier layer), for example, aluminum foil, which is overlaid on a layer of heat-sealable plastic material, and is in turn covered with another layer of heat-sealable plastic material that forms the inner face of the packaging. Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 13 / 41 / 19, which finally comes into contact with the food product.

[005] Packaging of this type is normally produced on fully automatic packaging machines, which shape the packaging from respective pre-forms. These pre-forms can be supplied as individual pre-forms or as a continuous sheet, which is shaped by a plurality of pre-forms arranged successively.

[006] If the packaging apparatus is designed to form packages from a continuous sheet, the packaging apparatus advances and sterilizes the continuous sheet, which is then formed into a tube and filled with the dispensed product before the tube is formed into individually sealed packages.

[007] To facilitate shaping and define the format of the packaging, the packaging preforms are provided with a plurality of scoring lines.

[008] Typically, a preform of packaging has a rectangular shape and is bounded by a first longitudinal boundary edge, a second longitudinal boundary edge, a first transverse boundary edge and a second transverse boundary edge.

[009] A typical packaging preform also comprises an upper crease pattern configured to form an upper part of the packaging and a lower crease pattern configured to form a lower part of the packaging. The upper crease pattern comprises at least a first transverse crease line and a second transverse crease line, and the lower crease pattern comprises at least a third transverse crease line and a fourth transverse crease line.

[0010] It is known for producing packaging with a bottom wall Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 14 / 41 / 19 and a top wall spaced apart from each other along a longitudinal geometric axis of the packaging. A variant comes with the top wall inclined relative to the bottom wall; such packaging is known as packaging with an inclined top wall.

[0011] It is known that such packaging is produced from packaging preforms with an appropriate top crease pattern. The top crease pattern comprises a first transverse crease line and a second transverse sealing line and a plurality of auxiliary crease lines and inclined crease lines that cross the first transverse crease line and the second transverse crease line.

[0012] Although packaging formed from these preforms offers excellent results, there is a desire in the industry to further improve preforms. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0013] Therefore, an objective of the present invention is to provide an improved packaging preform.

[0014] Another objective of the present invention is to provide an improved packaging formed from a pre-form packaging.

[0015] According to the present invention, a packaging preform is provided as claimed in claim 1.

[0016] Preferred, non-limiting embodiments of the preform packaging are claimed in the respective dependent claims.

[0017] According to the present invention, packaging according to claim 15 is also provided. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0018] Two non-limiting embodiments of the present invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 15 / 41 / 19 Figure 1 is a schematic view of a package filled with a pourable product, with parts removed for clarity; Figure 2 is a plan view of a packaging preform according to a first embodiment of the present invention; Figure 3 is an enlarged view of a detail of the packaging preform of Figure 2; and Figure 4 is a plan view of a packaging preform according to a second embodiment of the present invention. BEST WAYS TO CARRY OUT THE INVENTION

[0019] The number 1 in Figure 1 indicates a package formed from a pre-form packaging 2 (see Figure 2).

[0020] Preferably, each package 1 is formed from a respective packaging preform 2 by means of an automatic packaging machine.

[0021] The automatic packaging machine is configured to form packages 1 from the respective packaging preforms 2 and to fill the packages 1 with a pourable product, in particular a pourable food product, such as pasteurized milk, fruit juice, wine, tomato sauce, etc.

[0022] Preferably, the packaging preforms 2 may have a multi-layered structure.

[0023] In more detail, each packaging preform 2 may comprise at least one layer of fibrous material, such as a layer of paper or cardboard, and at least two layers of heat-sealable plastic material, such as polyethylene, interposed between the layer of fibrous material. Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 16 / 41 / 19

[0024] One of these two layers of heat-sealable plastic material may define an inner face of the respective packaging 1 formed from the respective pre-form packaging 2 and which ultimately comes into contact with the pourable product.

[0025] Preferably, but not necessarily, each packaging preform 2 may also comprise a layer of gas and light barrier material, for example, aluminum foil or ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) film, in particular disposed between one of the layers of heat-sealable plastic material and the layer of fibrous material. Preferably, but not necessarily, the packaging preform 2 may also comprise an additional layer of heat-sealable plastic material that is interposed between the layer of gas and light barrier material and the layer of fibrous material.

[0026] According to some preferred non-limiting embodiment, the packaging preforms 2 may be supplied in the form of a continuous sheet.

[0027] In more detail, the continuous sheet can be formed from a plurality of packaging preforms 2 arranged successively.

[0028] In other words, the packaging preforms 2 arranged successively define a plurality of repeating units of the continuous sheet. In particular, each repeating unit (i.e., the respective packaging preform 2) forms the precursor of a respective package 1.

[0029] Preferably, the packaging machine can be configured to produce packages 1 from the continuous sheet so that each package 1 results from a respective packaging preform 2.

[0030] In particular, each pre-packaging form 2 can Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 17 / 41 / 19 to understand a desired pattern / decoration.

[0031] Each preform packaging 2 can be designed to form a package 1 comprising: - a first part of packaging 3, preferably with a first wall; - a second packaging part 4, preferably with a second wall, offset from the first packaging part 3 along a longitudinal geometric axis A of the packaging 1; - an intermediate packaging part 5, preferably having and / or defining a side wall, which is (fixedly) connected to and extending from the first packaging part 3, preferably the first wall, and the second packaging part 4, preferably the second wall.

[0032] In more detail, each first packaging part 3, preferably the first wall, and each second packaging part 4, preferably the second wall, may respectively define a bottom part, preferably a bottom wall, and an top part, preferably an top wall, of the respective packaging 1.

[0033] Furthermore, each intermediate packaging part 5 may be interposed between the respective first packaging part 3 and the respective second packaging part 4.

[0034] Preferably, when each package 1 is in its nominal position (i.e., when it is being used by a user in the intended manner), the user recognizes the first package part 3 as the bottom part and the second package part 4 as the top part.

[0035] Preferably, each second packaging part 4 can be defined as the part of the packaging that can be manipulated to allow the pouring of the pourable product. For example, the second packaging part 4 can be manipulated to obtain an opening of Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 18 / 41 / 19 dumping or the second part of packaging 4 may comprise an opening device 6 (for example, a lid), which can be manipulated.

[0036] Preferably, each intermediate part 5 can be defined to be grasped by a user.

[0037] In more detail, each first packaging part 3, preferably the first wall, may define a support surface for the respective packaging 1, which may be designed to be placed in contact with a support, such as a shelf, when in use, for example being displayed within a point of sale or when stored.

[0038] According to some preferred embodiment, each second packaging part 4, preferably the respective second wall, may be inclined with respect to one of the respective longitudinal geometric axes A and / or to the respective first packaging part 3, preferably the respective first wall. [0040] Preferably, each transverse geometric axis C may be perpendicular to the respective longitudinal geometric axis B.

[0041] Preferably, each longitudinal geometric axis B may intersect the respective transverse geometric axis C within a central point of the respective packaging preform 2.

[0042] In more detail, each pre-packaging form 2 can extend within a plane encompassed by the longitudinal geometric axis B and the transverse geometric axis C.

[0043] Furthermore, each packaging preform 2 may have a (substantially) two-dimensional shape, i.e., the respective extensions of each packaging preform 2 along the longitudinal geometric axis B and the transverse geometric axis C may be (significantly) larger than the thickness of the packaging preform 2. In other words, the thickness of the packaging preform 2 may be negligible compared to the respective extensions along the longitudinal geometric axis B and the transverse geometric axis C.

[0048] It should be noted that, in the case of each pre-packaging 2 being arranged singularly, i.e., separated from the other pre-packaging 2, the respective first longitudinal boundary edge 10, the respective second longitudinal boundary edge 11, the respective first transverse boundary edge 12 and the respective second transverse boundary edge 13 may be real edges.

[0049] In the case of packaging preforms 2 arranged in the form of a continuous sheet 3, the respective first longitudinal boundary edge 10 and the respective second longitudinal boundary edge 11 may be real edges (as also shown in Figure 2) and the respective first transverse boundary edge 12 and the respective second transverse boundary edge 13 may be imaginary edges. In particular, each first transverse boundary edge 12 of a packaging preform 2 may be adjacent to or coincide with the respective second transverse boundary edge 13 of another packaging preform 2.

[0050] Alternatively, the respective first transverse boundary edge 12 and the respective second transverse boundary edge 13 may be real edges and the respective first longitudinal boundary edge 10 and the respective second longitudinal boundary edge 11 may be imaginary edges. In particular, each first longitudinal boundary edge 10 of a conditioning preform 2 may be adjacent to or coincide with the respective second longitudinal boundary edge 11 of another conditioning preform 2.

[0051] Furthermore, each longitudinal geometric axis B can define the respective longitudinal geometric axis A of the respective package 1 formed from the respective package preform 2.

[00106] In more detail, each preform of packaging 2 may comprise a first face and a second face opposite the first. Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 29 / 41 / 19 face. In particular, the second face can be configured to define an inner packaging face 1 to be formed, where the inner face is configured to be in contact with the pourable product.

[00107] According to some preferred embodiments, the main inclined crease lines 27 may protrude from the first face or, alternatively, from the second face.

[00108] In the first case, the main inclined crease lines 27 can be obtained with a creasing device that has a male tool that interacts with the second face and a female tool that interacts with the first face. In the second case, the main inclined crease lines 27 can be obtained with a creasing device that has a male tool that interacts with the first face and a female tool that interacts with the second face.

[00109] Preferably, the first transverse crease line 4 and / or the second transverse crease line 5 and / or the auxiliary crease lines 28 and / or the lower crease pattern 15 may protrude from the first face, or alternatively from the second face.

[00110] In the first case, the first transverse crease line 4 and / or the second transverse crease line 5 and / or the auxiliary crease lines 28 and / or the lower crease pattern 15 can be obtained with a creasing device that has a male tool that interacts with the second face and a female tool that interacts with the first face. In the second case, the first transverse crease line 4 and / or the second transverse crease line 5 and / or the auxiliary crease lines 28 and / or the lower crease pattern 15 can be obtained with a creasing device that has a male tool that interacts with the first face and a female tool that interacts with the second face.

[00111] With reference to Figure 4, the number 2' indicates an alternative embodiment of a pre-form packaging according to Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, page 30 / 41 / 19 with the present invention; as the packaging preform 2' is similar to the packaging preform 2, the following description is limited to the differences between them and uses the same references, where possible, for identical or corresponding parts.

[00112] In particular, the packaging preform 2' differs from the packaging preform 2 because the main inclined crease lines 27 do not cross the first transverse crease line 16.

[00113] Furthermore, the auxiliary angled crease lines 30 also do not cross the first transverse crease line 16.

[00114] In addition, each packaging preform 2' may comprise other linear crease lines 47 parallel to the longitudinal geometric axis B, crossing the first transverse crease line 16 and with one part disposed between the first transverse crease line 16 and the second transverse crease line 17 and another part disposed between the first transverse crease line 16 and the first transverse boundary edge 12.

[00115] The advantages of pre-packaging 2 according to the present invention will become clear from the description above.

[00116] In particular, the Applicant observed that, by having main inclined crease lines 27 crossing the respective intersection point 26 and by having the respective auxiliary crease line 28 not crossing the respective intersection point 26, the formation of packages 1 is facilitated, in particular, it is possible to obtain improved corners 33.

[00117] Clearly, changes can be made to packaging preforms 2 and 2', as described in this document, without, however, departing from the scope of protection as defined in the appended claims. Petition 870250087011, dated 09 / 25 / 2025, pages 31 / 41
