Description
1 / 52 RELEASE AND MAINTENANCE OF SAPC CONFIGURATION EXECUTED TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
[0001] An exemplary embodiment refers, in general, to techniques for selective activation of primary cells from groups of secondary cells and, more particularly, to techniques for retaining a conditional change configuration of primary cells from groups of secondary cells. BACKGROUND
[0002] User equipment frequently travels across wide geographic areas. As user equipment moves, this can result in connection with a variety of primary cells or secondary cell groups that provide coverage. As user equipment switches between primary cells or secondary cell groups, it acquires a range of configurations associated with those primary cells or secondary cell groups. When one of these configurations is executed, user equipment will often retain the configuration of neighboring primary cells or secondary cell groups (PS Cell) in the event of future changes to primary cells or secondary cell groups. However, user equipment does not necessarily retain the configuration that was executed. This can result in delays if the user's equipment moves away from the primary cells of secondary cell groups and then moves back and has to be reconfigured.
[0003] In situations involving the deployment of dual connectivity of new radio with primary cells of secondary cell groups based on frequency range 2, user equipment is expected to have frequent mobility within primary cells of secondary cell groups. User equipment is also expected to have frequent mobility within primary cells of secondary cell groups for deployments of Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, page 8 / 68 2 / 52 Dual connectivity of new radio with secondary cell layers serving as capacity enhancers with densely deployed secondary cells. Not retaining configurations increases PSCell changeover delay. RAN4 defines PSCell changeover delay: user equipment must be able to transmit random access physical channel preamble towards the new target PSCell before slot n + Tconfig_PSCell_Conditional. Slot n is the last slot overlapping the downlink shared physical channel containing PSCell conditional changeover. Tconfig_PSCell_Conditional is determined by the equation Tconfig_PSCell_Conditional = TRRC_delay + TEvent_DU + Tmeasure + Tue_preparation + Tprocessing + Tδ + TPSCell_du + 2 ms. TRRC_delay is the radio resource control processing delay, which is the corresponding radio resource control message embedded in an evolved universal terrestrial radio access radio resource control message.Otherwise, it is the radio resource control delay for processing the PSCell conditional addition command. This value starts counting from when a master node transmits a conditional (re)configuration containing the CPC settings of the candidate target PSCell(s) to the user equipment. TEvent_DU is the delay uncertainty, or the time from when user equipment successfully decodes a PSCell conditional addition command until a condition exists at the measurement reference point, which will trigger the PSCell conditional addition. Tmeasure is determined as the measurement time delay defined from the end of TEvent_DU until the user equipment executes a PSCell change to a target cell and the interruption time begins.TUE_preparation is defined as the user equipment preparation time for conditional PSCell addition, and begins after the user equipment understands that the PSCell addition condition has been met and the PSCell's identity has been determined. This time period can be up to 10 ms. Tprocessing is defined as the SW processing time required for the user equipment, including the radio frequency warm-up period. This time period is 20 ms when... Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, page 9 / 68 3 / 52 PSCell is in frequency range 1, and is 40 ms when PSCell is in frequency range 2. Tδ is defined as the time for fine-tuned time tracking and acquisition of total timing information from the target cell. This is equal to 1*Trs ms. TPSCell_DU is defined as the delay uncertainty in acquiring the first available random access physical channel occasion in PSCell. This time can be up to the sum of the synchronization signal block to the random access physical channel occasion association period and 10 ms. Trs is defined as the SMTC periodicity of the target cell if the user equipment has been equipped with an SMTC configuration for the target cell in a PSCell add-on message. Otherwise, Trs is the SMTC configured in measObjectNR with the same SSB frequency and subcarrier spacing. If the user equipment is not equipped with an SMTC configuration or measurement object at that frequency, the requirement in this clause applies with Trs equal to 5 ms, assuming that the synchronization signal block transmission periodicity is 5 ms. If the synchronization signal block transmission periodicity is not 5 ms, there is no requirement.
[0004] The following procedure is used to support subsequent secondary cell group change. When the execution condition of a candidate PSCell for conditional PSCell change is met, user equipment performs the conditional PSCell change execution toward the candidate PSCell. After completing the PSCell addition or change, the user equipment retains the conditional configuration of other candidate PSCells for subsequent conditional PSCell change. The user equipment continues to evaluate the execution conditions of other candidate PSCells. When the execution condition of another candidate PSCell is met, the user equipment performs the conditional PSCell change execution toward the other candidate PSCell. Currently, it is assumed that if user equipment needed to be able to return to a current secondary cell group per conditional procedure, the Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, page 10 / 68 4 / 52 The network could explicitly configure a candidate configuration for that cell. In selective activation of a secondary cell, the PSCell conditional change or PSCell conditional addition configurations for the user equipment are released after the PSCell change for changes between master nodes by explicit indication from the network. R2 assumes that a PSCell conditional addition configuration can be used for PSCell conditional change with different trigger conditions. It is unclear whether the PSCell conditional change configuration is retained by the user equipment after the user equipment executes the configuration. BRIEF SUMMARY

[0125] As illustrated in Figure 1, a system 100 is provided according to an exemplary embodiment to facilitate uplink transmission of user equipment 120. Although the system can be configured in various ways, the one-embodiment system is depicted in Figure 1 and includes both user equipment 120 and base station 140. Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, page 32 / 68 26 / 52 configured to communicate via uplink and downlink transmission and receive beams. Although a user device and a base station are depicted, the system may include 120 user devices and / or 140 base stations that can communicate with additional user devices and base stations in other modes. In one or more modes, the 120 user devices and 140 base stations may be configured to support, for example, 5G, advanced 5G, or 6G. In one or more modes, the 100 system may support carrier aggregation and / or dual connectivity. As described below, the system is configured to transmit messages and reports, such as reconfiguration messages, radio resource control messages, MAC control element messages, downlink control information messages, and / or similar messages.
[0126] The data that is transmitted via the uplink and downlink beams between the user equipment 120 and the base station 140 can be any of a wide variety of data, including, but not limited to, image data, including video data, audio data, as well as data provided by sensors, radars, telescopes and radio receivers. In at least some instances, the data is encoded before communication of the data via the uplink and downlink beams and decoded after reception. The resulting data received can be used for a variety of purposes, including presentation to a user, storage of the data for subsequent use, and / or provision of the data to one or more applications, such as applications that perform statistical inference on the data for various purposes, including object recognition, image classification, spectrum capture, speech transcription, and / or event prediction or detection.
[0127] User equipment 120 in Figure 1 (also called UE, user device, user terminal, terminal device, etc.) illustrated a type of device whose resources on an air interface are allocated and Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, page 33 / 68 27 / 52 assigned. User equipment 120 typically refers to a portable computing device that includes wireless mobile communication devices that operate with or without a subscriber identification module (SIM), including, but not limited to, the following types of devices: a mobile station (mobile phone), smartphone, personal digital assistant (PDA), handheld phone, device using a wireless modem (measuring or alarm device, etc.), laptop and / or touchscreen computer, tablet, game console, notebook, and multimedia device. User equipment 120 may also be a device that has the capability to operate on the Internet of Things (IoT) network, which is a scenario in which objects are endowed with the ability to transfer data across a network without the need for human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.User equipment 120 (or, in some embodiments, a Layer 3 relay node) is configured to perform one or more user equipment functions. User equipment 120 may also be called a subscriber unit, mobile station, remote terminal, access terminal, user terminal, or user equipment (UE), to mention just a few names or devices.
[0128] Base station 140 in Figure 1 may include, for example, remote radio heads (RRHs), transmit / receive points (TRPs), access points, Bs nodes (e.g., gNB) or other transmission sources. Base station 140 may be configured to communicate with user equipment 120 via a network.
[0129] Base station 140 can operate as part of a cell group. Base station 140 can be part of a master cell group (MCG) or a secondary cell group (SCG). In one or more modes, base station 140 can operate as a primary cell in the MCG or SCG. In one or more modes, base station 140 can operate as a secondary cell in the MCG or SCG. In one or more alternative modes, equipment of Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, p. 34 / 68 28 / 52 User 120 may change locations, requiring a new MCG or SCG. In one or more modes, User 120 equipment may utilize selective SCG activation or selective MCG activation. In one or more modes, mobile User 120 equipment cells may result in the change of the previous source PSCell to a target PSCell with conditional PSCell change. In one or more modes, PSCell add / change settings configured for selective activation are retained on both the User equipment and network sides.
[0130] Figure 2 depicts an exemplary device 200 that can be configured to function as a user device 120 or a base station 140. As shown in Figure 2, the device includes, is associated with, or is in communication with a processing circuitry 220, a memory 240, and a communication interface 260. The processing circuitry 220 may be in communication with the memory device 240 via a bus to pass information between components of the device. The memory device may be non-transient and may include, for example, one or more volatile and / or non-volatile memories. In other words, for example, the memory device may be an electronic storage device (e.g., a computer-readable storage medium) that includes ports configured to store data (e.g., bits) that can be retrieved by a machine (e.g., a computing device such as the processing circuitry). The memory device may be configured to store information, data, content, applications, instructions, or the like to enable the device to perform various functions according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure. For example, the memory device could be configured to buffer input data for processing by the processing circuitry. Additionally or alternatively, the memory device could be configured to store instructions for execution by the processing circuitry. Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pages 35 / 68 29 / 52
[0131] The device 200 may, in some embodiments, be incorporated into various computing devices described above. However, in some embodiments, the device may be incorporated as a chip or set of chips. In other words, the device may include one or more physical packages (e.g., chips) including materials, components, and / or wires in a structural assembly (e.g., a baseboard). The structural assembly may provide physical strength, size conservation, and / or electrical interaction limitation for the component circuitry assembly included therein. The device may, therefore, in some cases, be configured to implement an embodiment on a single chip or as a single “system on a chip.” Thus, in some cases, a chip or set of chips may constitute means for performing one or more operations to provide the functionalities described herein.
[0132] The processing circuitry 220, also referred to as a processor, can be incorporated in several different ways. For example, the processing circuitry can be incorporated as one or more of several hardware processing means, such as a processor, coprocessor, microprocessor, controller, digital signal processor (DSP), processing element with or without an associated DSP, or various other circuitry assemblies, including integrated circuits such as, for example, an ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit), an FPGA (field-programmable gate array), a microcontroller unit (MCU), a hardware accelerator, a special-purpose computer chip, or the like. Thus, in some embodiments, the processing circuitry may include one or more processing cores configured to operate independently.A set of multi-core processing circuits can enable multiprocessing in a single physical package. Alternatively, the processing circuit set may include one or more processors configured in tandem via the bus. Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pp. 36 / 68 30 / 52 enable independent instruction execution, pipeline execution, and / or multithreading.
[0133] In an exemplary embodiment, the processing circuitry 220 may be configured to execute instructions stored in memory device 240 or otherwise accessible to the processing circuitry. Alternatively or additionally, the processing circuitry may be configured to execute embedded code functionality. Thus, whether configured by hardware or software methods, or a combination thereof, the processing circuitry may represent an entity (e.g., physically embodied in the circuitry) capable of performing operations according to an embodiment of the present disclosure while configured accordingly. So, for example, when the processing circuitry is embodied as an ASIC, FPGA, or similar, the processing circuitry may be hardware specifically configured to conduct the operations described herein.Alternatively, as another example, when the processing circuitry is incorporated as an instruction executor, the instructions may specifically configure the processor to perform the algorithms and / or operations described herein when the instructions are executed. However, in some cases, the processing circuitry may be a processor of a specific device (e.g., an image or video processing system) configured to employ a mode by further configuring the processing circuitry through instructions to perform the algorithms and / or operations described herein. The processing circuitry may include, among other things, a clock, an arithmetic logic unit (ALU), and logic gates configured to support the operation of the processing circuitry.
[0134] The 260 communication interface can be any media such as a Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pp. 37 / 68 31 / 52 A device or set of circuits incorporated in hardware, or a combination of hardware and software, that is configured to receive and / or transmit data, including media content in the form of video or image files, one or more audio tracks, or similar. In this sense, the communication interface may include, for example, an antenna (or multiple antennas) and supporting hardware and / or software to enable communications with a wireless communication network. Additionally or alternatively, the communication interface may include the set of circuits to interact with the antenna(s) to cause signal transmission via the antenna(s) or to manage the reception of signals received via the antenna(s). In some environments, the communication interface may alternatively or also support wired communication. Thus, for example, the communication interface may include a communication modem and / or other hardware / software to support communication via cable, digital subscriber line (DSL), Universal Serial Bus (USB), or other mechanisms.
[0135] Referring now to Figure 3, a signaling diagram illustrates a process 300 for conditional PSCell switching (CPC) between source nodes initiated by source nodes according to previous methods. In this exemplary embodiment, user equipment 120 is connected to a source master node 380 and a source secondary node 385 and uses selective activation to switch to a target secondary node 390 among other potential target secondary nodes 395.
[0136] In one or more modes, in operation 305, the originating secondary node 385 indicates to the master node that a change of originating secondary node is required. In one or more modes, the originating secondary node 385 transmits to the master node a list of IDs of target secondary nodes that will be contacted to prepare target PSCell(s). In one or more modes, the originating secondary node suggests a list of PSCells to be prepared by the target secondary nodes. In one or more modes, the originating secondary node provides a CPC execution condition for each Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pp. 38 / 68 32 / 52 Suggested target PCell.
[0137] In one or more modes, in operation 310, master node 380 transmits an add request to target secondary node 390. In one or more modes, master node 380 transmits the add request from secondary node to target secondary node 390 in response to the inclusion of target secondary node 390 in the list of target secondary nodes transmitted in operation 305.
[0138] In one or more modes, in operation 315, master node 380 transmits add requests to other target secondary nodes 395. In one or more modes, master node 380 transmits the add request for a secondary node to other target secondary nodes 395 in response to the inclusion of target secondary node 395 in the list of target secondary nodes transmitted in operation 305.
[0139] In one or more modes, in operation 320, the secondary target node 390 decides on the candidate target PSCell(s) to prepare from the list of PSCells that were suggested by the secondary origin node 385 to be prepared.
[0140] In one or more modes, in operation 325, the other target secondary nodes 395 decide on the candidate target PSCell(s) to prepare from the list of PSCells that were suggested by the originating secondary node 385 to be prepared.
[0141] In one or more modes, in operation 330, the secondary target node 390 transmits the CPC configuration for each target PSCell prepared for the master node 380. In one or more modes, in operation 330, the secondary target node 390 transmits the ID of each target PSCell prepared for the master node 380.
[0142] In one or more modes, in operation 335, the other secondary target nodes 395 transmit the CPC configuration for each target PSCell prepared for the master node 380. In one or more modes, in operation 335, the other secondary target nodes 395 transmit the ID of each Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pp. 39 / 68 33 / 52 PSCell target prepared for master node 380.
[0143] In one or more modes, in operation 340, master node 380 transmits a conditional (re)configuration containing the CPC settings of the candidate target PSCell(s) to user equipment 120. In one or more modes, in operation 340, master node 380 transmits CPC execution conditions corresponding to the transmitted CPC settings of the candidate target PSCell(s) to user equipment 120.
[0144] In one or more modes, in operation 345, the user equipment transmits a confirmation to the master node 380 that the user equipment 120 has received the conditional (re)configuration.
[0145] In one or more modes, in operation 350, master node 380 transmits a confirmation to secondary node of origin 385 that user equipment 120 has received the (re)configuration. In one or more modes, master node 380 confirms preparation for change from secondary node to secondary node of origin 385.
[0146] In one or more modes, in operation 355, user equipment 120 evaluates the CPC execution conditions corresponding to the CPC configurations transmitted from the target candidate PSCell(s). In one or more modes, in operation 355, user equipment 120 evaluates the CPC execution conditions of the prepared target PSCell(s).
[0147] In one or more modes, in the 360 operation, a CPC execution condition is satisfied for a target candidate PSCell. In one or more modes, in the 360 operation, a CPC execution condition is satisfied for a target candidate PSCell on a secondary target node 390. In one or more modes, the CPC execution condition includes a CP(A)C execution condition. In one or more modes, the CPC configuration is executed.
[0148] In one or more modes, in operation 365, user equipment 120 transmits a message to master node 380 indicating the execution of the CPC configuration. In one or more modes, the Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pp. 40 / 68 Message 34 / 52 includes a complete secondary node radio resource control reconfiguration embedded for the target source node corresponding to the executed CPC configuration. In one or more modes, the complete radio resource control reconfiguration is for target source node 390.
[0149] In one or more modes, in operation 370, master node 380 transmits the complete radio resource control reconfiguration from secondary node to target source node corresponding to the executed CPC configuration. In one or more modes, the complete radio resource control reconfiguration is for target source node 390.
[0150] In one or more modes, in operation 375, user equipment 320 completes a random access procedure to target source node 390.
[0151] Referring now to Figure 4, a situation 400 for selective activation of SCG is illustrated. As illustrated in Figure 4, user equipment 120 is mobile through a group of PSCells under the overlapping cover of a new primary radio cell 410.
[0152] In one or more modes, user equipment is served by primary cell 410 and PSCell 420 (Pscell 2). In one or more modes, user equipment 120 is configured with selective activation of CP AC for target PSCells 430 and 440 (Pscell 3 and Pscell 4). In one or more modes, as user equipment moves toward PSCell 430, the CPC configuration for target PSCell 430 will be executed when the execution condition associated with PSCell 430 is met. In one or more modes, after execution, user equipment 120 retains the CPC configuration for PSCell 440 in case of a subsequent PSCell change. However, in previous versions, user equipment 120 does not necessarily retain the CPC configuration for PSCell 430. This can be technically disadvantageous in a situation where there is a subsequent change of PSCell away from PSCell 430 and subsequently Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, p. 41 / 68 35 / 52 back to PSCell 430.
[0153] Referring now to Figure 5, a situation 500 is illustrated in which it is not clear which previous modes retain PSCell configuration. In this situation, in previous embodiments, user equipment receives CPC configurations for PSCell 420, PSCell 430, and PSCell 440. In one or more previous embodiments, user equipment executes the CPC configuration for PSCell 420 and maintains the CPC configurations for PSCell 430 and PSCell 440. However, user equipment 120 can then release the CPC configuration for PSCell 420. In one or more previous embodiments, if user equipment 120 exits and subsequently returns to PSCell 420, then PSCell 420 will need to provide an “autoconfiguration,” where the autoconfiguration is the PSCell 420 CPC configuration that can be used by the user equipment to switch back to a service PSCell after a PSCell change. In one or more of the previous modes, this unnecessary autoconfiguration preparation will be the same as the configuration that the user equipment 120 originally performed for PSCell 420. The failure to retain this configuration by the user equipment 120 causes unnecessary delay, and the autoconfiguration preparation can waste system resources.
[0154] Referring now to Figure 6, a signaling diagram illustrates a 600 process for conditional PSCell (CPC) change between source nodes initiated by source nodes according to an exemplary embodiment in which the executed CPC configuration is retained. In this exemplary embodiment, user equipment 120 is connected to a source master node 380 and a source secondary node 385, and changes to a PSCell connected to target secondary node 390 or target secondary node 395. In this exemplary embodiment, user equipment 120 changes to PSCell 1-1 associated with secondary node 390, however, in other embodiments, user equipment may change to PSCell 2-1 or PSCell 2-2 associated with target secondary node 395. Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, p. 42 / 68 36 / 52

In one or more modes, the flag is indicated to the source master node 380 so that the source master node 380 configures the user equipment 120 to store and maintain the PCell change setting(s) to be executed. In one or more modes, the target secondary node 390 determines the target candidate PSCells to be prepared. In one or more modes, the target secondary node 390 determines the preparation of PSCell 2-1 and PSCell 2-2.
[0160] In one or more modes, in operation 620, the originating master node 380 transmits a modification request from the originating node to the target secondary node 390.
[0161] In one or more modes, in operation 625, the secondary target node 390 transmits the CPC configuration to the target PSCell 1-1 prepared for the master node 380. In one or more modes, in operation 330, the secondary target node 390 transmits the ID of the target PSCell 1-1 prepared for the master node 380.
[0162] In one or more modes, in operation 630, the originating master node 380 transmits a modification request from the originating node to the target secondary node 395.
[0163] In one or more modes, in operation 635, the secondary target node 395 transmits the CPC configuration for each target PSCell 2-1 and 2-2 prepared to the master node 380. In one or more modes, in operation 335, the other secondary target nodes 395 transmit the ID of each target PSCell prepared to the master node 380.
[0164] In one or more modes, in operation 640, master node 380 transmits a conditional (re)configuration containing the CPC settings of the candidate target PSCell(s) to user equipment 120. Petition 870250110697, dated 02 / 12 / 2025, pp. 44 / 68 38 / 52 of the candidate target PSCell(s) for user equipment 120. In one or more modes, master node 380 transmits the flag to maintain a PSCell configuration after execution. In one or more modes, the flag is indicated to the user equipment for each configuration provided by master node 380.
[0165] In one or more modes, in operation 345, the user equipment transmits a confirmation to the master node 380 that the user equipment 120 has received the conditional (re)configuration.
[0166] In one or more modes, in the 360 operation, a CPC execution condition is met for PSCell 1-1 on secondary node 390. In one or more modes, in the 360 operation, a CPC execution condition is met for PSCell 1-1 on target secondary node 390. In one or more modes, user equipment executes CPC towards secondary node 390.
[0167] In one or more modes, in operation 365, user equipment 120 transmits a message to master node 380 indicating the execution of the CPC configuration. In one or more modes, the message includes a complete secondary node radio resource control reconfiguration embedded for the target source node corresponding to the executed CPC configuration. In one or more modes, the complete radio resource control reconfiguration is for target source node 390.
