Description

1 / 24 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FULL DUPLEX SUB-BAND CONFIGURATIONS IN MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED PATENT APPLICATION(S)

[001] This disclosure is part of a non-provisional application claiming the priority benefit of U.S. Patent Application No. 63 / 500,929, filed May 9, 2023, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety. TECHNICAL FIELD

[002] This disclosure relates generally to mobile communications and, more specifically, to full duplex sub-band (SBFD) configurations with respect to mobile communication devices. BASIS

[003] Unless otherwise indicated, the approaches described in this section do not constitute prior art to the claims listed below and are not admitted as prior art by inclusion in this section.

[004] In 5th generation (5G) New Radio (NR) mobile communications, full duplex sub-band (SBFD) technology is introduced. Generally, a single SBFD configuration is applied between the network node (e.g., base station) and the user equipment (UE). However, in the situation of applying a single SBFD configuration, there may be significant interference from a neighboring network node / UE when the transmission direction of a sub-band associated with the SBFD configuration is opposite to the transmission direction of a band associated with a slot used by the neighboring network node / UE.

[005] Consequently, how to reduce interference from neighboring network nodes / UEs becomes an important issue in the newly developed wireless communication network. Therefore, there is a need to provide suitable schemes to avoid and reduce interference in SBFD communications. Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 16 / 51 2 / 24 SUMMARY

[023] Detailed embodiments and implementations of the claimed materials are disclosed in this document. However, it should be understood that the embodiments and implementations disclosed are merely illustrative of the claimed materials, which may be embodied in various forms. This disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be interpreted as limited to the exemplary embodiments and implementations presented in this document. Instead, these exemplary embodiments and implementations are provided so that the description of this disclosure is detailed and complete and fully conveys the scope of this disclosure to those skilled in the art. In the description below, details of well-known features and techniques may be omitted to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the embodiments and implementations presented. Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 20 / 51 6 / 24 Overview

[024] The implementations described in this disclosure relate to various techniques, methods, schemes and / or solutions pertaining to full duplex sub-band (SBFD) configurations in relation to mobile communications devices. According to this disclosure, various possible solutions can be implemented separately or in combination. That is, although these possible solutions may be described separately below, two or more of these possible solutions may be implemented in one combination or another.

[025] In relation to the present disclosure, multiple SBFD configurations may be applied. In particular, at least two SBFD configurations may be applied simultaneously between a network node (e.g., base station) and a user device (UE). Different SBFD configurations may be associated with different sets of slots. Applying different SBFD configurations associated with different sets of slots may increase the flexibility of preventing interference from different neighboring network nodes and / or UE(s).

[026] FIG. 1 illustrates an example scenario 100 under schemes according to the implementations of the present disclosure. Scenario 100 involves at least one network node and a UE, which may be part of a wireless communication network (e.g., an LTE network, a 5G / NR network, an IoT network, or a 6G network). Scenario 100 illustrates the actual network structure. The UE may connect to the network side. The network side may comprise one or more network nodes.

[027] In some embodiments, the network node may transmit at least two SBFD configurations to the UE. The at least two SBFD configurations may include a first SBFD configuration associated with a first set of slots and a second SBFD configuration associated with a second set of slots. Upon receipt, the UE may simultaneously apply the at least Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 21 / 51 7 / 24 two SBFD configurations. Subsequently, the network node can: (1) transmit data (i.e., downlink transmission) to the UE or receive data (i.e., uplink transmission) from the UE within the first set of slots, according to the first SBFD configuration; and (2) transmit data (i.e., downlink transmission) to the UE or receive data (i.e., uplink transmission) from the UE within the second set of slots, according to a second SBFD configuration.

[028] In some implementations, at least two SBFD configurations can be included in a layer 1 signaling (e.g., physical layer signaling). In other words, at least two SBFD configurations can be transmitted via layer 1 signaling. Layer 1 signaling may comprise, for example, downlink control information (DCI).

[029] In some implementations, at least two SBFD configurations can be included in a higher-layer signaling. In other words, at least two SBFD configurations can be transmitted via the higher-layer signaling. The higher-layer signaling may comprise, for example, a radio resource control (RRC) signaling or a medium access control (MAC) element control (CE).

[030] In some implementations, an indication of where each SBFD configuration is applied may be provided from the network node to the UE. In particular, the network node may transmit the indicator to the UE. The indicator may indicate to the UE that the first SBFD configuration is applied to the first set of slots and the second SBFD configuration is applied to the second set of slots. In some cases, the second set of slots may not overlap with the first set of slots.

[031] In some implementations, the indicator may be included in a layer 1 signaling (e.g., signaling Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 22 / 51 8 / 24 physical layer). In other words, the indicator can be transmitted via layer 1 signaling. Layer 1 signaling can include, for example, a DCI.

[032] In some implementations, the indicator may be included in a higher-layer signaling. In other words, the indicator may be transmitted via the higher-layer signaling. The higher-layer signaling may comprise, for example, an RRC signal or a MAC CE signal.

[033] Figure 2 illustrates an example scenario 200 under schemes according to implementations of the present disclosure. In particular, a first SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a first set of slots, including slots #0 to #M. A second SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a second set of slots, including slots #M+1 to #N.

[034] According to the first SBFD configuration, each slot in the first set of slots is allocated as a first subband (SB) and a second SB, where the first SB is for downlink (DL) transmission and the second SB is for uplink (UL) transmission. According to the second SBFD configuration, each slot in the second set of slots is allocated as the first SB and the second SB, where the first SB is for UL transmission and the second SB is for DL transmission.

[035] FIG. 3 illustrates an example scenario 300 under schemes according to implementations of the present disclosure. In particular, the network can determine at least two SBFD configurations based on slot information received from a neighboring network node. In particular, the slot information received from the neighboring network can indicate to the network node that the neighboring network node can use: (1) slots #1_0 to #1_M for DL transmission; and (2) slots #1_M+1 to #1_N for UL transmission. In other words, after receiving the slot information from the neighboring network node, the network node can be aware of the slots Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 23 / 51 Slots #1_0 to #1_M used by the neighboring network node are for DL transmission, and slots #1_M+1 to #1_N used by the neighboring network node are for UL transmission.

[036] So, when the network node needs to use the first set of slots, including slots #0 to #M, which have the first SB adjacent to the band of slots #1_0 to #1_M, to exchange data with the UE (for example, transmit data to the UE) under the SBFD scheme, the network node can determine the first SBFD configuration associated with slots #0 to #M to indicate to the UE that each slot in the first set of slots is allocated as the first SB for DL transmission and the second SB for UL transmission.

[037] Similarly, when the network node needs to use the second set of slots, including slots #M+1 to #N, which have the first SB adjacent to the slot band #1_M+1 to #1_N, to exchange data with the UE (for example, receive data from the UE) under the SBFD scheme, the network node can determine the second SBFD configuration associated with slots #M+1 to #N to indicate to the UE that each slot in the second set of slots is allocated as the first SB for UL transmission and the second SB for DL transmission.

[038] Therefore, in these cases, since the first SB of the first set of slots #0 to #M used by the network node and the adjacent band of slots #1_0 to #1_M used by the neighboring node are all for the same type of transmission (i.e., DL transmissions), the interference from the neighboring network node / UE during slots #0 to #M can be significantly reduced. Furthermore, since the first SB of the first set of slots #M+1 to #N used by the network node and the adjacent band of slots #1_M+1 to #1_N used by the neighboring node are all for the same type of transmission (i.e., UL transmissions), the interference from the neighboring network node / UE during slots #M+1 to #N can also be significantly reduced. Consequently, the simultaneous application of the first SBFD configuration to the first set of slots and the second SBFD configuration to the second set of slots Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, p. 24 / 51 10 / 24 can increase the flexibility of preventing interference from the neighboring network node / EU.

[039] FIG. 4 illustrates an example scenario 400 under schemes according to implementations of the present disclosure. In particular, a first SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a first set of slots, including slots #0 to #X. A second SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a second set of slots, including slots #X+1 to #Y.

[040] According to the first SBFD configuration, each slot in the first set of slots is allocated as a first SB, a second SB, and a third SB, while the first SB and the third SB are for DL transmission, and the second SB is for UL transmission. According to the second SBFD configuration, each slot in the second set of slots is allocated as the first SB, the second SB, and the third SB, while the first SB and the third SB are for UL transmission and the second SB is for DL transmission.

[041] FIG. 5 illustrates an example scenario 500 under schemes according to implementations of the present disclosure. In particular, the network can determine at least two SBFD configurations based on a first slot information received from a first neighboring network node and a second slot information received from a second neighboring network node.

[042] In particular, the first slot information received from the first neighboring network may indicate to the network node that the first neighboring network node may use: (1) slots #1_0 to #1_X for DL transmission; and (2) slots #1_X+1 to #1_Y for UL transmission. In other words, after receiving the first slot information from the first neighboring network node, the network node may be aware that slots #1_0 to #1_X used by the first neighboring network node are for DL transmission and slots #1_X+1 to #1_Y used by the first neighboring network node are for UL transmission. Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 25 / 51 11 / 24

[043] Furthermore, the second slot information received from the second neighboring network may indicate to the network node that the second neighboring network node may use: (1) slots #2_0 to #2_X for DL transmission; and (2) slots #2_X+1 to #2_Y for UL transmission. In other words, after receiving the second slot information from the second neighboring network node, the network node may be aware that slots #2_0 to #2_X used by the second neighboring network node are for DL transmission and slots #2_X+1 to #2_Y used by the second neighboring network node are for UL transmission.

[044] So, when the network node needs to use the first set of slots, including slots #0 to #X, which have the first SB adjacent to the slot band #1_0 to #1_X and the third SB adjacent to the slot band #2_0 to #2_X, to exchange data with the UE (for example, transmit data to the UE) under the SBFD scheme, the network node can determine the first SBFD configuration associated with slots #0 to #X to indicate to the UE that each slot in the first set of slots is allocated as the first SB for DL transmission, the second SB for UL transmission, and the third SB for DL transmission.

[045] Similarly, when the network node needs to use the second set of slots, including slots #X+1 to #Y, which have the first SB adjacent to the slot band #1_X+1 to #1_Y and the third SB adjacent to slot #2_X+1 to #2_Y, to exchange data with the UE (e.g., receive data from the UE) under the SBFD scheme, the network node can determine the second SBFD configuration associated with slots #X+1 to #Y to indicate to the UE that each slot in the second set of slots is allocated as the first SB for UL transmission, the second SB for DL transmission, and the third SB for UL transmission.

[046] Therefore, in these cases, as the first SB of the first set of slots #0 to #X used by the network node and the adjacent band of slots #1_0 to #1_X used by the first neighboring node Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, p. 26 / 51 Since 12 / 24 are all for the same type of transmission (i.e., DL transmissions), interference from the first neighboring / UE network node during slots #0 to #X can be significantly reduced. Furthermore, since the first SB of the first set of slots #X+1 to #Y used by the network node and the adjacent band of slots #1_X+1 to #1_Y used by the first neighboring node are all for the same type of transmission (i.e., UL transmissions), interference from the first neighboring / UE network node during slots #X+1 to #Y can also be significantly reduced.

[047] Furthermore, since the third cross-section of the first set of slots #0 to #X used by the network node and the adjacent range of slots #2_0 to #2_X used by the second neighboring node are all for the same type of transmission (i.e., DL transmissions), the interference from the second neighboring network node / UE during slots #0 to #X can be significantly reduced. Additionally, since the third cross-section of the first set of slots #X+1 to #Y used by the network node and the adjacent range of slots #2_X+1 to #2_Y used by the second neighboring node are all for the same type of transmission (i.e., UL transmissions), the interference from the second neighboring network node / UE during slots #X+1 to #Y can also be significantly reduced.

[048] Consequently, the simultaneous application of the first SBFD configuration to the first set of slots and the second SBFD configuration to the second set of slots can increase the flexibility of preventing interference from neighboring network nodes / UEs.

[049] Figure 6 illustrates an example scenario 600 under schemes according to implementations of the present disclosure. In some implementations, more than two SBFD configurations can be applied simultaneously between the network node and the UE. In particular, a first SBFD configuration of the SBFD configurations is associated with a first set of slots, including Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, p. 27 / 51 13 / 24 slots #0 and #1. A second SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a second set of slots, including slots #2 and #3. A third SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a third set of slots, including slots #W and #W+1. A fourth SBFD configuration of at least two SBFD configurations is associated with a fourth set of slots, including slots #W+2 and #W+3.

[050] According to the first SBFD configuration, each slot in the first set of slots is allocated as a first SB, a second SB, and a third SB, while the first SB and the third SB are for DL transmission, and the second SB is for UL transmission. According to the second SBFD configuration, each slot in the second set of slots is allocated as the first SB, the second SB, and the third SB, while the first SB and the third SB are for UL transmission and the second SB is for DL transmission.

[051] According to the third SBFD configuration, each slot in the third slot set is allocated as a fourth SB and a fifth SB, while the fourth SB is for DL transmission and the fifth SB is for UL transmission. According to the fourth SBFD configuration, each slot in the third slot set is allocated as the fourth SB and the fifth SB, while the fourth SB is for UL transmission and the fifth SB is for DL transmission.

[052] The simultaneous application of the first SBFD configuration to the first set of slots, the second SBFD configuration to the second set of slots, the third SBFD configuration to the third set of slots, and the fourth SBFD configuration to the fourth set of slots can increase the flexibility of preventing interference from neighboring network nodes / UEs. The 710 communication device can also be part of a machine-type device, which can be an IoT, NB-IoT, or IIoT device, such as a stationary or fixed device, a household appliance, a wired communication device, or a computing device. For example, the 710 communication device can be implemented in a smart thermostat, a smart refrigerator, a smart lock, a wireless speaker, or a home control hub.Alternatively, the 710 communication device may be implemented in the form of one or more integrated circuit (IC) chips, such as, for example and without limitation, one or more single-core processors, one or more multi-core processors, one or more Reduced-Instruction Set Computing (RISC) processors, or one or more Complex-Instruction-Set-Computing (CISC) processors. The 710 communication device may include at least some of the components shown in Figure 7, such as a 712 processor, for example. The 710 communication device may also include one or more other components not relevant to the scheme proposed in this disclosure (for example, a power supply). Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 29 / 51 15 / 24 internal power supply, display device and / or user interface device) and, therefore, such components of the 710 communication apparatus are not shown in FIG. 7 nor described below, for reasons of simplicity and brevity.

[055] The 720 network appliance may be part of a network appliance, which may be a network node, such as a satellite, a base station, a small cell, a router, or a gateway. For example, the 720 network appliance may be implemented in an eNodeB in an LTE network, in a gNB in a 5G / NR, IoT, NBioT, or IIoT network, or in a satellite or base station in a 6G network. Alternatively, the 720 network appliance may be implemented in the form of one or more integrated circuit chips, such as, for example and without limitation, one or more single-core processors, one or more multi-core processors, or one or more RISC or CISC processors. The 720 network appliance may include at least some of the components shown in FIG. 7, such as a 722 processor, for example. The 720 network device may also include one or more other components not relevant to the proposed scheme of this disclosure (for example, internal power supply, display device and / or user interface device) and, therefore, such components of the 720 network device are not shown in FIG. 7 nor described below for reasons of simplicity and brevity.

[056] In one aspect, each of the 712 and 722 processors can be implemented in the form of one or more single-core processors, one or more multi-core processors, or one or more CISC processors. That is, although the singular term “a processor” is used in this document to refer to the 712 and 722 processors, each of the 712 and 722 processors may include multiple processors in some implementations and a single processor in other implementations, according to the present disclosure. In another aspect, each of the 712 and 722 processors can be implemented in the form of Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 30 / 51 16 / 24 hardware (and optionally firmware) with electronic components including, for example and without limitation, one or more transistors, one or more diodes, one or more capacitors, one or more resistors, one or more inductors, one or more memristors and / or one or more varactors that are configured and arranged to achieve specific purposes, according to this disclosure. In other words, in at least some implementations, each of the 712 and 722 processors is a special-purpose machine, specifically designed, organized and configured to perform specific tasks, including autonomous reliability enhancements in a device (for example, as represented by the 710 communication apparatus) and a network (for example, as represented by the 720 network apparatus), according to various implementations of this disclosure.

[057] In some implementations, the communication device 710 may also include a transceiver 716 coupled to the processor 712 and capable of transmitting and receiving data wirelessly. In some implementations, the communication device 710 may also include a memory 714 coupled to the processor 712 and capable of being accessed by the processor 712 and storing data therein. In some implementations, the network device 720 may also include a transceiver 726 coupled to the processor 722 and capable of transmitting and receiving data wirelessly. In some implementations, the network device 720 may also include a memory 724 coupled to the processor 722 and capable of being accessed by the processor 722 and storing data therein. Consequently, the communication device 710 and the network device 720 may communicate wirelessly with each other by means of the transceiver 716 and the transceiver 726, respectively. To aid in better understanding, the following description of the operations, functionalities, and capabilities of each of the 710 and 720 communication devices is provided in the context of a mobile communication environment. Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 31 / 51 17 / 24 which communication device 710 is implemented in or as a communication device or a UE and the network device 720 is implemented in or as a network node of a communication network.

[058] In some implementations, the 722 processor can transmit, via the 726 transceiver, at least two SBFD configurations to a UE. The at least two SBFD configurations include a first SBFD configuration and a second SBFD configuration. The 722 processor can transmit and receive, via the 726 transceiver, data to the UE within a first set of slots, according to the first SBFD configuration. The 722 processor can transmit and receive, via the 726 transceiver, data to the UE within a second set of slots, according to the second SBFD configuration.

[059] In some implementations, at least two SBFD configurations are included in a top-layer signaling.

[060] In some implementations, at least two SBFD configurations are included in a layer 1 signaling.

[061] In some implementations, the 722 processor can transmit, through the 726 transceiver, an indicator to the UE. The indicator tells the UE that the first SBFD configuration is applied to the first set of slots and the second SBFD configuration is applied to the second set of slots.

[062] In some implementations, the second set of slots does not overlap the first set of slots.

[063] In some implementations, the indicator is included in a higher-layer signaling.

[064] In some implementations, the indicator is included in layer 1 signaling.

[065] In some implementations, the 722 processor can determine at least two SBFD configurations based on slot information received from a network node. Petition 870250090716, dated 06 / 10 / 2025, page 32 / 51 18 / 24
