Description

1 / 7 “TRANSPORT AND STORAGE CONTAINER FOR LIQUIDS”

[001] The invention relates to a transport and storage container for liquids with an inner container made from plastic, an outer casing made from metal and preferably implemented as a lattice structure, and a pallet-type base structure designed to be handled by forklifts or similar transport methods and having a support base made from sheet metal to support the inner container equipped with at least one filling neck at its top, wherein an intermediate container made from sheet metal and accommodating the inner container on all sides is made between the inner container and the outer casing, said intermediate container having a casing box,A container lid connected to the casing box and a container bottom made up of a base frame support and connected to the casing box in a liquid-tight manner.

[002] The known transport and storage containers of the type mentioned at the beginning are mainly used for transporting liquids, also allowing the liquids to be stored in the same container after filling, and the liquids to be transported in the container within the scope of the corresponding provisions in the sense of fire protection regulations.

[003] To prevent highly flammable liquids contained in the container from leaking into the container's surroundings should the inner plastic container fail due to thermal overload, in order to comply with the relevant fire protection regulations, the connection of the outer casing that tightly encloses the inner container to the bottom of the container is known from document no. WO 2017 / 108288 A1, made by the bottom support of the base structure, in order to create a liquid-tight casing that prevents flammable liquid from flowing from the inner container into the surrounding environment of the transport and storage container should the inner plastic container fail due to thermal overload. Petition 870250092013, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 54 / 67 2 / 7

[004] To allow both filling and emptying of the inner container housed in the protective box, in the case of the transport and storage container known from document no. WO 2017 / 108288 A1, the inner container may have both a filling opening and an extraction opening at its top, so that both filling and extraction of liquids can be carried out from the top. However, the arrangement of the extraction opening at the top of the inner container also requires the provision of special extraction elements to remove liquids from the inner container, these extraction elements extending inside the inner container from the top to the bottom of the inner container and their operation requiring special pump devices.

[005] Conventional extraction elements used in an inner container with a bottom outlet, characterized by a particularly simple design and allowing pure gravimetric emptying of the container without the use of pumps, are therefore not usable in known fireproof transport and storage containers. This is particularly disadvantageous if highly viscous liquids are kept in the inner container, which require a particularly high pumping performance to be extracted through an extraction opening provided at the top of the inner container.

[006] The objective of the invention in question is, therefore, to propose a transport and storage container that is fireproof and / or leakproof in case of fire and that allows the use of a conventional extraction accessory, which is provided to be connected to a lower outlet of the inner container, to extract the liquid held in the inner container.

[007] To achieve this objective, the transport and storage container, according to the invention, has the features of claim 1.

[008] According to the invention, the coating box has an access opening that is sealed in a liquid-tight manner by means of a container lid made from metal, which overlaps a lower outlet. Petition 870250092013, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 55 / 67 3 / 7 carried out in an inner container.

[009] Through the access opening, it is possible to access an outlet fitting located at the bottom outlet of the inner container, so that such inner containers with a bottom outlet for connecting an outlet fitting and thus allowing gravimetric emptying of the inner container located in the protective box, can also be used in combination with the protective box that surrounds the inner container, without compromising the suitability of the transport and storage container for the safe storage of flammable liquids, in accordance with the fire protection standards in force at the storage location.Instead, in addition to the known advantage of preventing the liquid contained in the inner container from leaking into the surrounding environment of the transport and storage container due to a failure of the inner container, the transport and storage container according to the invention offers the additional advantage of also enabling gravimetric extraction of liquid in the case of such a fireproof transport and storage container.

[010] Preferably, for the purpose of creating an access opening that can be sealed in a liquid-tight manner by means of a front cover, the front cover may be connected to the casing box by means of a clamping ring closure.

[011] The seal between the front cover and the opening edge of the access opening, which is essentially achieved by the surface pressure generated by the clamping ring, can be further enhanced by additional sealing elements, to increase, in particular, the creep resistance of the seal between the front cover and the access opening under extreme temperature loads. Therefore, it may be advantageous to provide the sealing area with additional suitable thermal insulation on the outside. For example, this could be a coating that forms an insulating layer, such as an intumescent lacquer, a thermally insulated protective cover, a fabric-based thermal insulation, or a combination of the above-mentioned options. Petition 870250092013, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 56 / 67 4 / 7

[012] To obtain a reliable sealing effect, even with relatively low clamping forces, the access opening may have a flanged ring to perform the closing of the clamping ring, a complementary flanged ring of the front cover that engages said flanged ring.

[013] Furthermore, it is possible that any form tolerances or dimensional tolerances between the contact surfaces made on the front cover and the opening edge of the access opening may be compensated for by the corresponding deformations of the flanged rings.

[014] It is particularly advantageous if the front cover covers an outlet fitting arranged in the outlet opening so that the transport and storage container already has the outlet fitting in its fireproof configuration, i.e., in its configuration where it is fitted with the container lid and the liquid can be extracted from the inner container by means of the conventional outlet fitting immediately after the container lid has been removed.

[015] To allow particularly easy removal of the front cover of the access opening provided in the casing, a removal opening for removing the front cover of the access opening is made in front of the front cover on the outer casing of the transport and storage container.

[016] If the removal opening is defined by the distance of continuously performed adjacent horizontal bars or vertical bars of the external cladding performed as a truss structure, the removal opening is already predetermined by the truss structure, so special measures in the truss structure are superfluous.

[017] If the regular truss structure of the outer casing does not yet have a removal opening that allows the front cover of the transport and storage container to be removed, it is advantageous if the truss structure of the outer casing has a gap to create the removal opening in such a way that a horizontal or vertical bar of the truss structure has a gap in the bar where it overlaps the front cover, so that the front cover can be removed. Petition 870250092013, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 57 / 67 5 / 7 of the access opening made in the casing box through this gap in the bar.

[018] To ensure a minimum accumulation height within the transport and storage container, regardless of the arrangement of the front cover, even when the access opening in the casing box is open, it is advantageous for the front cover to be positioned above a connection made materially between the casing box and the support bottom.

[019] Below, a preferred embodiment of the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the drawings.

[020] In the Figures: Figure 1 shows an isometric illustration of the transport and storage container with a front cover located at the front in the area of a bottom outlet; Figure 2 shows a front view of the transport and storage container illustrated in Figure 1 with the access opening open after removing the front cover; Figure 3 shows a partial cutaway illustration of the transport and storage container illustrated in Figure 1 along section plane III illustrated in Figure 1 with an illustration of a threaded fitting connected to the lower outlet of the inner container of the transport and storage container; Figure 4 shows a partial enlarged illustration of the cross-section illustration shown in Figure 3; Figure 5 shows a detailed enlarged illustration of a retaining ring closure illustrated in Figure 4.

[021] Figure 1 shows a transport and storage container 10 with a pallet-type base structure 11 with an external coating 12 made as a truss structure in this case, said external coating 12 being composed of horizontal bars 13 and vertical bars 14 and connected to a support bottom 15 of the base structure 11 by means of a horizontal bar. Petition 870250092013, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 58 / 67 6 / 7 lower continuously circumferential 13, wherein said support bottom 15 is illustrated in particular in Figure 3. A casing box 16 is also connected to the support bottom 15, wherein said casing box 16 is disposed within the outer casing 12 in such a way that the casing box 16 is located between the outer casing 12 and an inner container 17 made from plastic and disposed on the support bottom 15, casing box 16, which is made from metal, being connected in a liquid-tight manner at its lower edge to the support bottom 15, which is also made from sheet metal and which together with the support bottom 15 forms a fireproof container in which the inner container 17 is accommodated so that, in case of failure of the container, in particular due to a thermal overload of the plastic material of the inner container 17,A liquid contained in the inner container 17 may actually leak from the inner container 17, but it cannot flow into the surrounding environment of the transport and storage container 10. In this case, a material connection made as a welded joint is provided to achieve the liquid-tight connection between the jacket box 16 and the support bottom 15.

[022] As can be seen in a combination of Figures 1 to 3, the sheath box 16 has an access opening 20, which is fitted with a front cover 19, in a front part in the area of a lower outlet 18 projecting into the inner container 17. The access opening 20 is located in an arrangement that covers the lower outlet 18 and / or an extraction fitting 21 connected to the lower outlet 18, so that, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the extraction fitting 21 connected to the lower outlet 18 of the inner container 17 can be accessed through the access opening 20 opened after the front cover 19 has been removed, so that the extraction fitting 21 can be transferred to an open or closed position to enable the extraction of liquid from the inner container 17 in a defined manner, by actuating the extraction fitting 21 by means of a valve lever 22 carried on the extraction fitting 21. Petition 870250092013, dated 08 / 10 / 2025, pp. 59 / 67 7 / 7

[023] As is particularly clear from a combination of Figures 3 to 5, in the case of the exemplary embodiment illustrated, the front cover 19 is connected to the housing 16 by means of a clamping ring closure 23 in the position in which it seals the access opening 20. For this purpose, an opening edge of the access opening 20 is made as a flanged ring 24, wherein a complementary flanged ring 25 of the front cover 19 engages said flanged ring 24.In this positioning of the front cover 19 in the access opening 20, which is illustrated in particular in Figure 5, a channel-shaped retaining ring 26 surrounds both the flanged ring 25 of the front cover 19 and the flanged ring 24 of the access opening 20, so that, after turning a tightening lever 27 that connects the ends of the retaining ring 26 together, a sufficiently large radial pressure force is applied to the flanged ring 25 of the front cover 19 to obtain a sealing contact of the flanged ring 25 with the flanged ring 24 of the access opening 20.

[024] Furthermore, particularly after the retaining ring closure has been used repeatedly, it may be necessary to provide additional sealing (not illustrated in more detail in the case in question) between the overlapping flanged rings 24 and 25.

[025] As shown in Figures 1 to 3, a slot is made in the truss structure of the outer cladding 12 in the area of the access opening 20 in such a way that a horizontal bar 13 which, in the case of a continuous configuration, overlaps the access opening 20 and / or the front cover 19 disposed in the access opening 20 has a bar clearance 28, so that a removal opening 29 is made in the truss structure, this removal opening 29 being large enough to allow the front cover 19 to be removed from the access opening 20 made in the cladding body 16 without being obstructed by the truss structure of the outer cladding 12 and thus to allow access to the threaded fitting 21.
