Description
1 / 7 “PACKAGING FOR ELECTRICAL EXTENSION CORD” Innovation field
[001] The present innovation, in the nature of a utility model, relates to packaging in the form of a blister pack specially designed for the packaging and presentation of an electrical extension cord comprising a conductor cable carrying, at one end, one or more sockets in a monobloc body and, at the opposite end, a plug for connection to a power outlet. The packaging in question has a simplified construction capable of facilitating the transport, storage and display of the electrical extension cord at points of sale. Background of the innovation
[002] Packaging used to contain and display electrical extensions with one or more sockets arranged in a monobloc body, which may or may not be provided with a line filter defining element, is well known in the state of the art, generally in a suspended manner.
[003] A well-known constructive arrangement for individually packaging these electrical extensions comprises a card or plate, generally made of cellulosic material such as cardboard, containing graphic elements related to the manufacturer and the characteristics of the product, with the conductor cable arranged in an elliptical coil and the monobloc body carrying the socket(s) placed side by side against the front face of the card. The monobloc body and the conductor cable are contained against the card by a cover glued or otherwise fixed to the card and made of plastic material. Petition 870250013221, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 7 / 20 2 / 7 transparent, to allow at least partial viewing of the product to be purchased by the end consumer.
[004] Although widely used, this well-known solution is expensive to construct, requiring two types of components that need to be produced according to the dimensional characteristics of each electrical extension cord and then fixed together to close the packaging. In addition to the manufacturing cost and the reduced commitment to environmental preservation, due to the plastic material of the cover, this previous solution, with the conductor cable and the monobloc body arranged side by side, leads to a less compact packaging, with a width corresponding to the side-by-side arrangement of the electrical extension cord components, occupying more space in display cases.
[005] Other known types of packaging for the electrical extension cords in question include transparent plastic bags or cardboard boxes on which the characteristics of the manufacturer and the packaged product are printed.
[006] In the first case, the coiled conductor cable and the monobloc body are arranged, not always neatly, inside the plastic bag, making it difficult to clearly see the product. The use of the plastic bag requires specific construction for each dimensional standard of electrical extension cord and does not meet environmental needs.
[007] In the second case, it can be said that the construction of the boxes is even more expensive, requiring specific dimensioning for the different dimensional standards of Petition 870250013221, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 8 / 20 3 / 7 electrical extension and also elaborate graphic representations so that the consumer has a clear visualization of the product's characteristics without needing to open the box. Innovation Summary
[008] Considering the inconveniences and limitations of known solutions aimed at electrical extensions of the type considered here, the present innovation aims to provide packaging for these electrical extensions, featuring a simple construction, relatively low cost, manufactured from a single structural component, generally made of biodegradable material or even recyclable plastic, and easily adaptable to different dimensional standards of the product to be packaged and to different graphic standards for identifying origin and functional aspects, maintaining an organized and compact positioning of the conductor cable and the monobloc body in the structural component, by means of a single fastening element that is simple and quick to apply, without hindering a prompt and clear visualization of the product by the consumer. Brief description of the drawings
[009] The innovation will be described below, with reference to the attached drawings, in which;
[0010] Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the packaging in question when applied to an electrical extension cord provided with a conductor cable with one end carrying a monobloc body with multiple sockets and the opposite end carrying a male plug; Petition 870250013221, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 9 / 20 4 / 7
[0011] Figure 2 represents a front view of the assembly illustrated in Figure 1;
[0012] Figure 3 represents a left side view of the assembly illustrated in figures 1 and 2; and
[0013] Figure 4 represents a rear view of the assembly illustrated in figures 1, 2 and 3. Description of the innovation
[0014] As illustrated in the attached drawings and previously discussed, the packaging in question is applied to a known type of electrical extension cord comprising a parallel electrical conductor cable 10, which is mechanically and electrically coupled, at one end, to one or more sockets 21 mounted on a monobloc body 20, generally of elongated parallelepiped shape and made of non-electrically conductive material. An opposite end of the conductor cable 10 is coupled to a plug 30 for connection to a socket of a power supply network not shown.
[0015] The length and gauge of conductor cable 10 may vary according to different electrical extension standards, without these variations altering the practical, economical and simplifying design of the constructive arrangement now proposed for the packaging.
[0016] According to the innovation in question, the packaging comprises a 40-pack card, generally flat and made of biodegradable material such as cardboard or similar, or even recyclable plastic, with a contour having a width and length compatible with each standard extension to be packaged and with sufficient thickness for printing, to Petition 870250013221, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 10 / 20 5 / 7 packaging, adequate structural strength.
[0017] In the illustrated construction, the card 40 has a regular polygonal shape, particularly an elongated rectangular shape, having a contour loosely circumscribed to the contour of the monobloc body 20 and to the contour of the conductor cable 10 when wound in an elliptical arrangement. Although the drawings illustrate a rectangular card 40, it may have different shapes compatible with the shape of the monobloc body 20 for mounting the sockets 21 and with the shape imprinted on the winding of the conductor cable 10, so that the monobloc body 20 can be seated and retained against the front face 41 of the card 40 and so that the conductor cable 20, in the wound arrangement, can be seated and retained against the rear face 42 of the card 40, as illustrated in the drawings, with the contour of the card 40 exceeding the contour of the monobloc body 20 and the conductor cable 10 when wound.
[0018] The card 40 is provided, in its median region, with two lateral cutouts 43, opposite and aligned with each other along a plane transverse to the card 40 and which medially sections the body 20, generally between two adjacent sockets 21. With this arrangement, the fixing of the conductor cable 10, in coiled form, and of the monobloc body 20 against the rear 42 and front 41 faces, respectively, of the card 40 is carried out by a single fastening cord 50, preferably in the form of a Hellerman strap, which is fitted into the lateral cutouts 43 and passed over the conductor cable 10, already coiled and seated against the rear face. Petition 870250013221, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, p. 11 / 20 6 / 7 of card 40, and also on the monobloc body 20 already seated against the front face 41 of card 40, to then be tightened around the assembly, fixing the components of the electrical extension to card 40.
[0019] For a better fit of the tie cord 50 over the conductor cable 10, already wound, and over the monobloc body 20, the side cutouts 43 have a depth dimensioned to define, between them, a spacing corresponding to the width of the region of the monobloc body 20 over which the tie cord 50 is passed.
[0020] Because the monobloc body 20 and the coiled extension of the conductor cable are seated and retained against opposite faces of the card 40, the latter is provided with an extreme cutout 44, made on an extreme edge of the card 40, to allow the conductor cable 10 to have a transition extension extending from the monobloc body 20, passing through the interior of said extreme cutout 44, and reaching the rear face 42 of the card 40, on which the winding of the conductor cable 10 and the male plug 30 are seated and retained, without said transition extension of the conductor cable projecting beyond the contour of the card 40, in the region of the extreme lower edge of the latter.
[0021] Considering that the packaging in question is designed to be displayed suspended in a display structure, the card 40 is further provided with a window 45, centrally located near an extreme edge of the card 40, opposite to that in which the extreme cutout 44 is provided. The window 45 defines a Eurolock, so that the card 40 can Petition 870250013221, dated 02 / 18 / 2025, page 12 / 20 7 / 7 to be hung on a hook of a display structure.
[0022] The proposed construction is quite versatile as it allows the packaging to be easily adjusted, by means of the contour of the card 40 and its side cutouts 43, to different sizes of electrical extension cords of the type considered here, with the front face 41 of the card 40, on which the monobloc body 20 is seated and retained, providing a clear view of the product and also a substrate for printing information on the origin and standard of the packaged electrical extension cord. On the back face 42 of the card 40, outside the area covered by the coiled conductor cable 10, detailed information on the technical specifications of the electrical extension cord can be printed, including instructions for use and care.
