Air-blown optical cable and production process thereof

Abstract

The present invention discloses an air-blown optical cable and a production process thereof. The air-blown optical cable includes a cable core and an outer sheath wrapped around an outer side of the cable core. The cable core includes a plurality of optical fibers, and bonding portions that intermittently bond these optical fibers along an axial direction. An outer wall of the outer sheath is provided with a protruding rib, a height of the protruding rib extends outwardly along a radial direction of the optical cable, and a length of the protruding rib extends along a length direction of the air-blown optical cable. The height of the protruding rib is set to 0.1 mm - 0.4 mm. Arranging the protruding rib on the outer side of the outer sheath reduces the friction between the optical cable and the external duct during laying. This enables more efficient cable laying, reduces damage, allows for long-distance cable laying, and lowers labor intensity during air-blown laying. Meanwhile, setting the height of the protruding rib to 0.1 mm - 0.4 mm ensures smooth passage through the sizing die, without scraping contact with the sizing die. This avoids that the protruding rib is transformed into recess under subsequent vacuum negative pressure, which would change the original structure of the optical cable.
