Abstract

The invention relates to a striking mechanism (10) for a timepiece, equipped with a manual mode selector (90) for actuating a toggle device configured to switch the striking mechanism (10) between a standard operating mode and a demonstration mode. The striking mechanism (10) comprises at least one striking element (20) arranged, in the standard mode, to cooperate, by means of a feeler, with a cam (80) associated with a time signal, in order to actuate a hammer so as to strike a gong a number of times associated with the time signal. The switching device is configured so that, when switching from standard mode to demonstration mode, the probe moves out of the path of the striking piece (20) so that the amplitude of the movement of said piece is different from, preferably greater than, the amplitude of its movement in standard mode, when the striking mechanism (10) is triggered. This allows the hammer to be struck a different number of times, preferably greater than the number of strikes associated with the time signal.
