System and method for conserving auxiliary energy

Abstract

An energy storage system includes an array controller configured to dispatch a required energy flow through a first set of battery cores from a plurality of battery cores to operate the first set of battery cores in online mode. The array controller is configured to instruct at least one power conversion unit (PCS) in a second set of battery cores to operate in standby mode to conserve auxiliary energy. Standby mode results in the deactivation of HVAC equipment from at least one PCS in the second set of battery cores; and energizing and connecting an AC bus, a DC bus, or both, but without operating a power conversion unit in the second set of battery cores.The array controller is also configured to monitor environmental condition data from at least one PCS of the plurality of battery cores operating in standby or online mode.
