Follicular unit excision device and method of use

Abstract

A follicular unit excision device controls the operating speed of the punch used to cut and harvest a graft, based on skin contact with the punch's cutting tip. The device uses one or more parameters associated with the punch's rotation, such as rotation speed or motor voltage, which are affected when the punch comes into contact with the patient's skin. Skin contact and one or more thresholds associated with the parameter are used to activate the motor and rotate it at an operating speed that allows for follicular unit excision.
