Abstract

The present invention relates to a system and method for the automated monitoring of bathers on beaches and coastal areas, intended to improve safety in bathing areas. The system uses optical, infrared, or thermal cameras installed on fixed structures or aerial platforms, such as poles or drones, to capture images of the monitored area. Through video processing and image analysis techniques, the system detects the presence of bathers in the water and tracks them in real time. Based on the detection of the shoreline or using reference points in the coastal environment, the system generates a virtual safety perimeter at a predetermined distance from the sea, delimiting a permitted swimming area. The system analyzes the position and trajectory of bathers relative to this perimeter and can also apply predictive tracking to anticipate possible crossings of the established boundary. When a swimmer is detected crossing the virtual perimeter or approaching a hazardous area, the system generates automatic alerts that can be transmitted to devices used by lifeguards, such as radios, mobile phones, or audible alarm systems. The system can also identify areas with a high concentration of swimmers, operate at night using infrared or thermal sensors, and record events for later analysis.
