Reinforced wear member

Abstract

A method for manufacturing a reinforced wear member. The method may include the steps of: providing a mold comprising one or more parts, the mold having a cavity in the shape of a wear member for mounting on excavating equipment; placing one or more retainers on top of the mold; placing an abrasion-resistant center in the mold beneath said one or more retainers; the center having a front end and an opposite rear end; the height of the front end being less than the height of the rear end; and filling the mold with molten steel, such that the center is raised to contact with said one or more retainers, the steel being less abrasion-resistant than the center (200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 1140), during filling of the mold.
