Abstract

Automated system and method for particulate matter suppression in high-tonnage ore discharges from primary crushers in the mining industry. The system comprises a drive unit with a centrifugal pump controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD), at least one oscillating monitor cannon with a cone-type spray nozzle, a high-pressure piping network, and an event-driven control system. The key innovation is the volumetric encapsulation effect: the combination of the high-pressure (7 bar) cone-type spray pattern and the programmed oscillating movement of the monitor generates an enveloping hydraulic wall that traps and precipitates the convective dust cloud generated during the discharge from the haul truck (CAEX). The design is based on the balance between the hydraulic energy of the system (E_H = P × V_water) and the kinetic energy of the air displacement (E_C-MP).The system achieves suppression efficiencies exceeding 70%, improving operational visibility from less than 35 meters to more than 150 meters. Optionally, it integrates an IoT monitoring module with statistical evaluation by percentiles (P95 / P99) and a biodegradable surfactant dosing module.
