Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for improving an animal's growth performance and / or nutrient utilization by administering an animal feed composition comprising a feed additive or feed supplement containing at least one nuclease. The nucleases in the feed composition hydrolyze nucleic acids (DNA / RNA) present in situ along the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of an animal, thereby enhancing the release of nutrient oligonucleotides into the GIT. This improved release of nutrient oligonucleotides enhances an animal's growth performance and / or nutrient utilization, particularly during periods of high metabolism and / or rapid growth.
