Problems solved by technology

[0007] similar figure 1 contact pad 112, the capacitance at contact pad 212 may create a discontinuity at contact pad 212, causing some signal power to reflect back to the external transmission line coupled to contact pad 212
Such reflections create inter-symbol interference (ISI), which may limit link performance and / or require additional power

Abstract

The invention provides a passive signal distribution method for an integrated circuit. In one embodiment, an integrated circuit may include internal transmission lines in one or more layers of the integrated circuit. The internal transmission line may be coupled to receive a signal from the external transmission line at the first end of the internal transmission line without the use of a termination circuit. The internal transmission line can passively transmit the signal to the second end of the internal transmission line. The integrated circuit may include a first circuit having an input coupled to the internal transmission line at a first location to receive the signal; and a second circuit having an input coupled to the internal transmission line at a second location internal transmission line to receive the signal. The second location is different from the first location. In addition, other embodiments are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to integrated circuits. Background technique [0002] figure 1 A clock signal distribution network 110 in a prior art integrated circuit 101 is described. Integrated circuit 101 is coupled to external transmission lines at various pads, such as pad 112, to receive clock and data signals, such as from transmitter 102 in a source synchronous (SS) system. The clock signal is received at the pad 112 and recovered by the buffer 121 of the integrated circuit 101 . Termination resistor 118 is located close to contact pad 112 to suppress signal reflections at or near contact pad 112 when the clock signal is received by integrated circuit 101 . Such signal reflections can compromise signal integrity. [0003] The recovered clock signal is distributed to receivers 131, 132, 133 and 134 via lines, and they are either directly used by receivers 131, 132, 133 and / or 134, or input to receivers 131, 132, 133 and / or 134 A c...
