no. 1 example

[0055] FIG. 1 is a schematic view illustrating the configuration of a network system including image forming apparatuses configured according to a first embodiment of the present invention.

[0056] The network system shown in FIG. 1 includes image forming apparatuses 1 and 2 configured according to an embodiment of the present invention and various devices such as a file server 3, computers 4 and 5, notebook personal computers (PCs) 6, mail servers 7 and printer8. The above-mentioned elements are connected to a network (local area network (LAN)) 9 .

[0057] The image forming apparatuses 1 and 2 can receive print orders by e-mail. In this case, known receiving protocols can be used, such as Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). An image file to be printed is sent by e-mail from any one of the computers 4 and 5 and the notebook personal computer 6 to the e-mail address of the image forming apparatus 1 or 2, and the image forming appar...

[0113] In the second embodiment of the present invention, when the review button 105 shown in FIG. 6 is operated, a list of e-mail sender addresses of e-mails that the image forming apparatus 2 has received in the past is displayed, as shown in FIG. 11 . Details of the second embodiment are as follows.

[0114] In the second embodiment, the operator operates the reference button 105 of the user interface screen 101 shown in FIG. 6 . Then, CPU 1401 of image forming apparatus 2 performs control so that address screen list 601 can be displayed on liquid crystal panel 1406 of image forming apparatus 2 based on the reception record list saved on disk 1404 of image forming apparatus 2 . Among them, the address list screen 601 displays a list of sender addresses from which the image forming apparatus 2 has received print commands via e-mail in the past. Details of the address list screen 1601 are described below with reference to FIG. 11 .

[0130] In the third embodiment of the present invention, the e-mail sender instructs the e-mail receiver executing printing processing not to return a print completion notice. Details of the third embodiment are explained below.

[0131] Details of the third embodiment are given below by way of example with reference to FIGS. 13 to 15 . Image data is read out from a document, and an image file is formed by the image forming apparatus 1, and the image file is sent to the image forming apparatus 2 by e-mail, which then receives the e-mail.

[0132] FIG. 13 is a schematic view illustrating an example of a user interface screen for sending an image scanned by an image forming apparatus as an e-mail sender.

[0133] In FIG. 13 , a home screen 801 for setting sending e-mail is displayed on the user interface provided for the image forming apparatus 1 . Wherein, the image forming apparatus 1 is the sender of the print command, and the user interface is the liquid crystal panel 1406...

Abstract

In a data communication apparatus (1, 2) having a printing function (1303) of printing, for example, received emails, and a function (1301) of transmitting print completion notifications, if received data is a print completion notification, it may be printed out, but a print completion notification indicating that the printing of the received data has been completed is not transmitted. Then, wasteful transmission of print completion notifications is prevented. Alternatively, the printing itself of the received data is inhibited, which prevents wasteful consumption of printing resources.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a control method for controlling transmission of a print completion notification when a print operation on received data is completed. Background technique [0002] In one known system, the user is notified by electronic mail (email) that the print job has been completed (for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2005-107741). In another known system, received emails are printed out (eg, US Patent No. 5,881,233). [0003] Referring to Fig. 21, a typical known system for printing an e-mail and notifying the user of the completion of printing is described below. [0004] Fig. 21 illustrates a computer 2101 as a print client and an image forming apparatus 2102 executing a print command. [0005] The computer 2101 is operated by an operator. An operator operates an electronic mail application program installed in the computer 2101 to form electronic mail. An image file that the operator wishes to print is attached to t...
