Problems solved by technology

This can result in insufficient support of the guidewire at 100-200 mm from the distal end of the corewire while holding the catheter and other associated equipment inserted along the guidewire into the body cavity
[0007] Soldering and brazing processes are more detrimental to torque transfer due to the position of the splice end away from the distal end of the core wire
In addition, these processes lead to heat treatment of the joint end, thus softening the joint end and reducing its mechanical strength

Embodiment Construction

[0032] In the following description of the illustrated embodiments, the same reference numerals are used to refer to the same types of components.

[0033] Referring to Figures 1 to 4, a medical guide wire 1 (hereinafter simply referred to as "guide wire 1") according to a first embodiment of the present invention is shown, the right-hand side of the figure is the proximal side of the guide wire 1, and the left-hand side of the figure is the far side.

[0034] As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 , the guide wire 1 has a core wire 2 and a helical body 3 as a flexible sheath body placed around a distal portion 21 of the core wire 2 .

[0035] The core wire 2 has a tapered distal portion such that the diameter of the distal portion gradually decreases as it approaches forward. The core wire 2 has a proximal wire 4 and a distal wire 5 , and the distal wire 5 is connected to the distal end of the proximal wire 4 . The distal wire 5 is less rigid than the proximal wire and has higher recove...

Abstract

In a guide wire (1), a core line (2) has a proximal side wire (4) and a distal side wire (5), the latter of which is to be connected to a front end of the proximal side wire (4). The distal wire (5) is smaller in rigidity and superior in restitution than the proximal side wire (4). A concave portion (51) is provided on either the distal end surface of the proximal side wire (4) or a proximal end surface of the distal side wire (5). A convex portion (41) is provided on the other side wire among the distal end surface of the proximal side wire (4) and the proximal end surface of the distal side wire (5) The concave portion (51) and the convex portion (41) are interfit together, and pressure bonded by means of swaging or drawing procedure. This enables a manufacturer to sufficiently bond the distal side wire (5) and the proximal side wire (4) at a portion terminated in less than 100 mm from a distal end (11) of the guide wire (1), thus imparting a good restitution to the distal end (11) with a good supportability and torque-transmission maintained respectively.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to medical guidewires for the insertion of medical devices or equipment, such as catheters, into body cavities. Background technique [0002] Various types of guide wires have been used to introduce catheters for the purpose of blood vessel inspection and treatment, so that the guide wires are inserted to a destination before the catheter is inserted. [0003] Among the various guidewires, a guidewire has a core wire that tapers to form a tapered configuration, and has a sheath body disposed around a distal portion of the core wire. Some guide wires have a synthetic resin film covering the outer surface of the core wire. [0004] In order for the guide wire to travel smoothly through the arcuate region of the body cavity when the catheter is introduced, the physical properties of the guide wire are required to have good torque transmission and support capabilities to maintain the catheter and other related equipment inser...
