comparative test 2

[0092] (Comparative Test 2) Next, an experiment was conducted using the ink cartridge of the first embodiment and using the ink cartridge (Reference Example 2) in the same form as in the first embodiment but mounted with a sensor arm that is not formed with any diffusion surface, that is, a flat surface. Investigate the behavior of the sensor arm. The amount of ink stored in advance in the ink container of each ink cartridge is such that the liquid level of the ink is set at the middle position in the longitudinal direction of the detection portion.

[0093] First, the ink stored inside is forcibly foamed to form a state in which the detected portion of the sensor arm is abutted against the inner wall near the top of the detection portion by air bubbles (i.e., the sensor arm is placed in the image 3 in the clockwise direction and the float part is in contact with the inner wall of the ink tank). Then, the time taken for the sensor arm to return from this state to the normal ...

Abstract

An ink cartridge includes an ink tank in which ink can be stored. The ink cartridge also includes a displacement member provided in the ink tank and displacable along a predetermined displacement route in association with decrease in the amount of the ink stored in the ink tank. A diffusing surface formed with fine depressions and projections so as to generate a capillary force is provided on at least one of a part of an area corresponding to the displacement route on an inner wall surface of the ink tank and a part of a surface of the displacement member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to ink cartridges for storing ink. Background technique [0002] An inkjet recording apparatus that performs printing by discharging ink from nozzles to recording paper is known. Such an inkjet recording apparatus may be provided with a detachable ink cartridge. When the inkjet head attempts to discharge ink in the state where the ink tank is empty, not only does printing not occur, but air enters the inkjet head. When air enters an inkjet head, the inkjet head in question becomes unusable in the worst case. In order to avoid such a result, it is necessary to always know the amount of remaining ink in the ink tank, and control the device to prohibit ink discharge from the inkjet head when the amount of remaining ink in the ink tank is almost zero. [0003] In Japanese Patent Publication 2005-125738 ( figure 1 ), a technique for detecting the amount of remaining ink in an ink cartridge is disclosed. In other words, the...
