[0008] A preferred embodiment of the invention is a linear motor, the stator of which is configured to generate a radial magnetic field and the armature of which constitutes a piston-like part which is axially movable in this magnetic field.

The cylindrical section 10 comprises a series of coils arranged side by side and wound so that when energized by a current passing through them they will generate a radial magnetic field disposed axially along the length of the cylindrical section. These coils also define an annular air gap with the mandrel 14 , the ends of which are located in the end caps 11 and 12 .
