A steering pinion 18 coupled to a second end 20 of the steering shaft 16 , opposite the first end 14 , engages steering rack teeth 22 of a steering rack 24 . Each end of the steering rack 24 includes a tie rod 26 connected to a steerable wheel and tire assembly 28 in a conventional manner. It should be noted that although a vehicle with Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) is shown, the inventive subject matter can also be implemented using a generator and as such can be readily implemented by a person skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the inventive subject matter. The convenience of EPAS eliminates the need for a separate generator.
