Problems solved by technology

[0006] However, none of the above-mentioned descriptions sufficiently reduces the amount of conductive material necessary or sufficiently reduces the cost of the product
Furthermore, none of the above descriptions has sufficient flexibility to construct motor windings into a variety of electrical design configurations
[0007] Thus, to date, there is no suitable end cap assembly or method for substantially reducing the amount of conductive material used in a stator core product

Embodiment Construction

[0022] One embodiment of the invention includes an end cap assembly comprising a substrate and a plurality of connection vias each interposed between coils of the stator winding, thereby allowing electrical communication between the connection vias and the ends of the stator conductors. Two particular advantages provided by the present invention are the ability to use much less conductive material (such as magnet wire) in the stator end coils to make the stator core and allow a single end cap assembly to be used for a number of different stator conductor configurations, These structures can be applied to many different stator design requirements.

[0023] The specific structures and arrangements of the claimed invention discussed below with reference to the accompanying drawings are for illustration purposes only. Other structures and arrangements within the scope understood by those skilled in the art may be manufactured, used, and sold without departing from the spirit and s...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a stator and a method of making the same, more concretely the present disclosure describes an endcap assembly (208, 210) for a stator (200) of an electric motor havinga stator winding. The endcap assembly (208, 210) has a dielectric material (304), and a plurality of connection paths (302) each being supported by the dielectric material (304) and each interveningbetween each turn of the stator winding wherein the connection paths (302) are configured to communicate with each terminal end (804, 806) of a stator conductor (306). A method of making a stator is also provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to electric motors. More specifically, the present invention relates to stators for electric motors. Background technique [0002] Stators are usually formed from a series of thin, flat punched sheets or laminations stacked to form a three-dimensional stack or core. Coils or windings are positioned in pre-formed slots in the punched sheets and extend through the stacked sheets with the ends of the coils wrapping around each end of the stacked sheets to form the end coils of a continuous closed loop circuit. [0003] Manufacturers have developed stators with winding sheets of different conductors, similar to the coils described above that wrap around each end of the stacked sheets. For example, a method of manufacturing a stator having a stator winding formed of a plurality of U-shaped conductor pieces is described in JP-B2-3196738. In this example, the U-shaped conductor piece has a pair of conductors inserted into slot...
