Embodiment Construction

[0031] Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments

[0032] A preferred embodiment of a retractable lifeline and recovery assembly constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention is indicated by the numeral 100 in the Figures.

[0033] The retractable lifeline and recovery assembly 100 includes a housing 101 having a top 118 , a bottom 125 , a first side 126 and a second side 129 . The housing 101 is divided into a first part 107 and a second part 115 by the plate part 103 . Preferably, the first part 107, the second part 115 and the plate part 103 are integral. The plate portion 103 includes a hole 104 , preferably an orifice, in fluid communication with the first cavity 108 of the first portion 107 and the second cavity 116 of the second portion 115 . Flange 105 extends outwardly from plate portion 103 into first cavity 108 around aperture 104 . A notch 109 adjacent the bottom of the first part 107 provides cable exit. The first portion 107 inclu...

Abstract

A retrieval assembly is configured and arranged for use with a retractable lifeline assembly including a cable assembly. The retrieval assembly is releasably engagable with the cable assembly to pay out or retract the cable during rescue.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to a retrieval assembly for use with a retractable lifeline. Background of the invention [0002] Self-retracting lifelines (self-retracting lifelines) are generally used by workers performing tasks, and there is a danger of falling during the task. Self-retracting lifelines generally include a housing that includes a drum around which cables, ropes or straps are wound. The drum is spring biased to relax the cable when tension pulling the cable is applied and to retract the cable that has been unwound from the drum when the tension on the cable is reduced or released. The housing also includes a brake assembly to stop rotation of the drum should the cable suddenly unwind from the drum at a velocity greater than a predetermined maximum angular velocity. [0003] The self-retracting lifeline is typically connected to a support structure within the vicinity of the worker's task, and the end of the cable is typically conn...
