Abstract

The invention concerns a gas generator that comprises an envelope which is subdivided by two partitions (12, 13) to form three contiguous chambers, namely a first and a second combustion chambers (C1, C2), on either side of a diffusion chamber (D), communicating with at least one discharge opening (100), with the said partitions (3, 4) being traversed by at least one longitudinal nozzle (120, 130), and only the first (C1) of the said combustion chambers (C1, C2) being fitted with an ignition device (2) for the said pyrotechnic charge (3) contained within it, characterised by the fact that: the said diffusion chamber (D) contains a conduit (8) the opposite ends of which communicate with the said nozzles (120, 130), the wall of this conduit itself having at least one opening forming a nozzle (80), which is never closed off and which connects its internal space with the internal space of the diffusion chamber; - the other nozzles (120, 130) are closed off by an opercule (6, 7); the area of the said opening forming that nozzle (80) of the said conduit (8) is dimensioned so that this nozzle (80) controls the combustion of the charge (4) contained in the said second combustion chamber (C2), when the said opercules (6, 7) have given way.
