Problems solved by technology

However, after knowing the above information, the serving BS still cannot accurately know which carrier combinations (such as 10+10, 5+10+5, 5+5+5+5, etc.) the MS can use the aggregated 20MHz bandwidth to handle simultaneously
Therefore, how to transfer multi-carrier capability information between BS and MS, so that multi-carrier OFDM system can effectively support multi-carrier data transmission is still a challenge

Embodiment Construction

[0023] The invention will now be described with reference to the details of various embodiments, using the accompanying drawings.

[0024] figure 1 is a schematic initialization operation flow for a MS in a wireless multi-carrier OFDM network 10 according to one novel aspect. The wireless OFDM network 10 includes single-carrier and multi-carrier mixed BSs and MSs, for example: single-carrier BS11, multi-carrier BS12, single-carrier MS13 and multi-carrier MS14. When the MS begins to initialize and access the wireless network, it will implement a two-stage network entry procedure. Regardless of whether the BS and the MS are single-carrier or multi-carrier, the two-stage network access procedure can be implemented between the BS and the MS.

[0025] figure 1 A two-stage onboarding procedure for WiMAX systems and LTE-Advanced systems is demonstrated. For the WiMAX system, in the first stage, all devices share the network access procedure. The MS selects one of the supported RF...

Abstract

In a carrier assignment procedure, a mobile station and its serving base station exchange and negotiate carrier deployment and multi-carrier capability information, and make a well-informed carrier assignment decision based on the negotiation result. The carrier assignment procedure ensures that the assigned secondary carriers are not only supported by both the serving BS and the MS, but are also desirable under additional requirements and considerations. Furthermore, the carrier assignment decision may be updated based on additional considerations such as channel quality measurement and network load condition over the assigned carriers. Such updated assignment decision may be made by the base station in unsolicited manner, or based on a carrier re-assignment request from the mobile station.

Description

technical field [0001] The disclosed embodiments relate to wireless network communications, and more particularly, to carrier allocation for multi-carrier OFDM systems. Background technique [0002] To meet the requirements of next-generation wireless systems, multi-carrier OFDM systems have become the baseline system architecture in IEEE 802.16m (for WiMAX 2.0 systems) and 3GPP Release 10 (for LTE-Advanced systems) draft standards. For example, multi-carrier OFDM technology can be used to achieve the 1Gbps peak transmission required by the International Radiocommunication Advisory Committee (ITU-R) for the next generation mobile communication system (called IMT-Advanced, also known as "4G" mobile communication system) Rate. Various access schemes such as OFDMA, OFDM / CDMA, OFDM / TDMA, etc. have been developed based on multi-carrier OFDM, and have been applied to multi-carrier OFDM wireless systems. However, upgrades to network deployments are usually evolutionary rather tha...
