The method comprises the following steps: receiving border gateway protocol (BGP) update messages respectively sent by the first provider edge (PE) and the second PE of a far end in the network; checking whether the edge device identifiers VE-ID of the virtual private lan service (VPLS) of the first BGP update message and the second BGP update message are same or not; when the VE-IDs of the first BGP update message and the second BGP update message are same, selecting one PE from the first PE and the second PE to build a primary pseudowire (PW) according to a BGP rote selection rule; and building the spare PW by the other PE. The method has the advantages that the spare PW is built in advance by VE-ID to improve low business switching speed caused by network failure.
