Abstract

The device is a ventricular assist device comprising: a pump with a housing having radial impellers therein and a rotor driving the impellers, both of which are hydrodynamically suspended in use in the housing, the pump also comprising a stator for driving the rotor an inlet cannula part arranged to extend from the inside of the ventricle so as to span the wall of the ventricle, the stator within the inlet cannula part being located inside the ventricle; and an outlet for blood driven by the impeller so that the pump is a radial pump.
