The first bus electrode (12) is provided with a first solid portion (12a) that extends into the discharge space (30), and the second bus electrode (22) is provided with a second solid portion (22a) that extends into the discharge space (30). Because the bus electrode of the PDP discharge electrode is provided with solid portions that extend into the discharge space, the discharge occurs in the space, increasing the discharge electrode surface area and increasing the amount of electrons produced by the discharge.
