[0063] Compositions are formulated in accordance with the present disclosure. The composition comprises polyphenylene sulfide resin, glass fiber, organosilane coupling agent and impact modifier. A similar composition was also formulated without impact modifier. Both compositions were then tested for melt viscosity under low shear.

Abstract

Blow molded articles are made from polymer compositions comprising polyphenylene sulfide resins. The composition may further contain reinforcing agents such as glass fibers, and organosilane coupling agents in combination with impact modifiers. It has been found that the combination of an aminosilane coupling agent and an impact modifier greatly increases the low shear viscosity and melt strength of the composition without increasing the high shear viscosity of the composition. The increased low-shear viscosity makes the composition particularly suitable for molding moldings with complex shapes. In the production of blow molded articles, for example, the compositions provide better control over wall thickness at higher throughputs and extrusion rates while having improved inner surface smoothness.
