[0293] The containers were labeled with polypropylene labels at temperatures below which the labeled containers would normally remain defect-free. All labels were applied without defects at the time of application. The labeled containers were then immediately placed in an oven at 100°C for various residence times. The final temperature of the label is measured at the end of the oven aging. The containers were then inspected after one week of aging at room temperature.
[0294] The control sample, which was not exposed to post heat treatment, failed after one week due to the formation of defects. All samples (squares) that were exposed to post heat at 100°C for at least 30 seconds passed inspection after one week of aging. Based on these results, it is believed that an outlet temperature of at least 50°C in the post heat step is sufficient to prevent defects for this particular label material.
