The method includes: dividing driving signals into a plurality of levels with the amplitude fixed; dividing a field of display period into a plurality of sub-fields, wherein display periods in the sub-fields are different in weight; in the display period of each subfield, selecting one of the driving signals to be applied to a pixel unit to be displayed; and combining brightness of the sub-fields to achieve grayscale display of the field emission flat panel display. The method is simple in needed drive circuit and free of a complicated amplitude amplifying circuit, can solve the problem that the display cannot respond to narrow pulses and has unique advantages in grayscale display.
