Embodiment Construction

[0043] refer to Figure 1-112 , a latch 200 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention can be seen. The latch 200 includes a latch housing 202, a pawl 204, a trigger or catch 206 and an actuating means for selectively moving the trigger 206 out of the pawl 204 and is used to move the pawl 204 from a first or initial latched position to a second or final latched position to draw a portion of the striker further into the interior of the housing 202 . In the illustrated embodiment, an electrically operated actuator assembly 208 is used as the actuating means.

[0044] The latch 200 is generally applicable where one or more closure members need to be secured in place. The latch 200 may be used with a striker 308 to secure any two closure members together. In the example shown, the latch 200 is shown for securing the plate 300 with respect to certain compartments (not shown) which the plate 300 acts as a closure member. In use, the latch 200 can be fastened t...

Abstract

The present invention relates to improvements in latch design. The illustrated embodiment of the invention is a rotary pawl latch capable of providing a compressive force between a first member and a second member. The illustrated embodiment of the invention is of the electromechanical type. The latch's control circuitry detects when a striker attached to a component such as the door moves the pawl to the first latch position. A motor is then actuated which drives the pawl to a second latched position to provide compression between the first member and a second member, such as a door frame.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a latch for releasably securing a first member, such as a door, panel or the like, relative to a second member. Background technique [0002] Latches are used to releasably fasten panels, covers, doors, electronic modules, etc. to other structures - such as compartments, cabinets, containers, door frames, other panels, frames, shelves, etc. While many latch designs are known in the art, none of them provide the advantages of the present invention. The advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the accompanying detailed description and drawings. Contents of the invention [0003] The present invention relates to improvements in latch design. The illustrated embodiment of the invention is a rotary pawl latch capable of providing a compressive force between a first member and a second member. The illustrated embodiment of the invention is of the electromechanical type. The latch's control circuitry...
