Embodiment Construction

[0015] refer to figure 1 , shows a cross-sectional view of a hardcoat film 10 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, schematically illustrating its stacked layers. The hardcoat film 10 comprises a transparent polymeric film substrate 2 which forms the base of the hardcoat film. An organic adhesive layer 4 is formed on the surface of the film substrate 2 . The organic hard coat layer 6 is formed on the surface of the adhesive layer 4 and provides a protective surface for the plurality of stacked layers of the hard coat film 10 . In one application, the hardcoat film 10 is suitable for use as a protective covering for display devices and the like.

[0016] In a preferred embodiment, the disclosed hardcoat film 10 is formed by depositing a plurality of discontinuous organic and / or inorganic layers of selected materials on one or more surfaces of the film substrate 2 using a vacuum deposition coating process. layer to form. The coating process and curing of the...

Abstract

A hard coat film comprising a polymer film substrate, an organic adhesion layer formed on a surface of the film substrate by depositing a first organic material on a surface of the film substrate in vacuum, and an organic hard coat layer formed on a surface of the adhesion layer by depositing a second organic material on the adhesion layer in vacuum is disclosed. Preferably, the layers are separately cured following the deposition processes. The adhesion layer has a thickness in a range of about 0.025 [mu]m to about 20 [mu]m and the hard coat layer has a thickness in a range of about 0.025 [mu]m to about 20 [mu]m. Optionally, the hard coat film includes an inorganic layer formed between the adhesion layer and the hard coat layer. Also disclosed is a process for forming a hard coat film by depositing multiple layers of organic and / or inorganic materials on a substrate in vacuum.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to hardcoat films. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to hardcoat films formed by vacuum depositing an organic hardcoat material on a substrate in a vacuum. Background technique [0002] Hardcoat films of the type found in a variety of applications are traditionally prepared by spraying or casting a solution or emulsion on a surface, followed by evaporation of the solvent. A hard coat or hardcoating typically involves a protective polymer applied to a substrate to provide abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, or other surface properties. Typical thicknesses of today's hardcoats range from about 1 μm to about 8 μm, depending on the polymer and coating technique. Typically, hard coats are used to protect image display devices such as LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), touch panel, CRT (Cathode Ray Tube), PDP (Plasma Display Panel), EL (Electro Luminescence Display)), optical disks and other equipm...
