The method includes: determining the newest state of each partition when partition balance is needed; carrying out a partition balance processing according to the newest state of each partition and obtaining corresponding relations among source nodes, migration partitions on the source nodes, and target nodes; sending a migration task to the target nodes in the corresponding relations and the migration task includes the source nodes corresponding to the target nodes and the migration partitions on the source nodes in the corresponding relations; the migration task is for instructing the target nodes to trigger the data migration between the target nodes and the source nodes corresponding to the target nodes, and the data migration refers to the migration of the data in the migration partitions of the source nodes to the target nodes. The partition balance method and device and the server in the distributed storage system enable the partition balance of the distributed storage system, that is, data recovery and online capacity extension to be realized.
