[0044] Affymetrix gene chip expression analysis

[0045] Gene expression analysis was performed using Affymetrix Canine 1 and Canine 2 GeneChip™ arrays commercially available from Affymetrix, Inc., Santa Clara, CA 95051. Total RNA was reverse transcribed into cDNA. cDNA is used to generate cRNA, which is fragmented and used as probes for gene chip hybridization. The gene chip was washed, and the hybridization signal was measured with an Affymetrix laser scanner. Hybridization data were then validated and normalized for further analysis.

[0046] Materials: Affymetrix offers most reagents and kits. Obtain other reagents listed in the Affymetrix handbook but not in the kit separately. For details, please refer to the Gene Chip Expression Analysis Technical Manual (701021 Rev.4).

Abstract

The invention relates to pet food compositions designed to induce the animal to cease feeding upon consumption of the appropriate nutritional amount. The invention further provides methods of inducing satiety response in animals and methods of controlling the amount of food intake in animals.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to dietary control of appetite in animals, especially companion animals such as dogs. Provides pet food, pet food additives, and feeding methods that allow the caregiver to dispense larger amounts of food than the animal should consume in one meal, with the result that the animal consumes the appropriate amount of food without intervention by the caregiver to move from the animal's territory Food was walked or otherwise the animals were not allowed access to the food source between feeding times. Background of the invention [0002] Excessive food intake and its deleterious effects on body weight are well known. Over time, excess food intake creates a net surplus of calories, which is stored in the animal's fat. Excessive body fat accumulation on gross body weight levels (causing the animal's overall appearance to not conform to commonly accepted morphological standards) and metabolic levels (causing it can impair th...
