Embodiment approach

[0070] The stack can have so-called floating electrodes. A floating electrode is an electrode that is not directly connected to a power source but receives a polarizing charge from other electrodes in the stack that are connected to a power source or from other floating electrodes. Floating electrodes can be placed in parallel and between master electrodes in the stack. The invention can be used to connect the main electrodes in a stack to a power source. The advantage of using a floating electrode is that the voltage on the connector can be higher while the current through the connector can be lower. Electrical losses due to resistivity in the connector can be significantly reduced by using floating electrodes. Embodiments of the invention thus include:

[0071] setting the first electrode;

[0072] disposing a spacer against the first electrode;

[0073] A second electrode is arranged facing the spacer, and the second electrode is a floating electrode;

[0074] disposi...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a device for removing ions from water. A stack may be fabricated by providing a first electrode with a first current collector; a spacer provided on top of the first electrode; and, a second electrode provided on top of the spacer. The stack may have a tray for supporting and placing the stack within the housing of the device, which improves the manufacturability of the device.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device for removing ions comprising a plurality of stacks, a single stack comprising: [0002] first electrode; [0003] a second electrode; and [0004] A spacer is between the first and second electrodes and allows water to flow between the first and second electrodes. Background technique [0005] In recent years, people have become increasingly concerned about the impact of human activities on the environment and their possible negative consequences. Ways to reduce, reuse and recycle resources are becoming more important. In particular, clean water is becoming a scarce commodity. Various methods and apparatus for purifying water have thus been published. [0006] One method of water purification is capacitive deionization, which uses a device with a flow-through capacitor (FTC) for removing ions from water. The FTC acts as an electrically renewable battery for capacitive deionization. By charging the electr...
