Abstract

One particular implementation associates a broadcast media item (with a metadata element containing a call sign or channel number for the program) with a particular broadcast frequency and virtual channel on which the service provider broadcasts the program. A command string can be algorithmically defined to encode the frequency and physical channel and shown to the tuner hardware for locking and decoding the signal. Then, a URL including the command string can be generated. The DLNA client device can then tell the media renderer to play the broadcast media item by exchanging the URL and control interface.
