[0018] First refer to figure 1 , shows a system generally designated 10 comprising a television 12 having a television stand 14 . Although a television 12 is described, it should be understood that the present principles apply generally to audio-visual display devices having a sufficiently good display screen and supporting CEC.

[0019] Such as figure 1 As shown, the signal from the AV receiver 16 can typically be sent via a wired or wireless high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connection 18 to the television 12 for display thereon. Television 12 and AV receiver 16 may be controlled by one or more remote controls (RC) 20 . Television 12 may also communicate with the Internet via an Internet interface 22, such as a wired or wireless modem.

[0020] figure 1 Television signals shown on HDMI connection 18 are received at television 12 via HDMI receiver or transceiver 24 for supply to television digital processor 26 which accesses a computer readable storage medium 28...

Abstract

A graphic representation of a home AV system is shown on a video display in the system depicting CEC device hierarchy, if desired according to their physical addresses. Devices that failed to obtain physical addresses also can be depicted so indicating, and HDMI physical addresses and device types of each device may also be indicated. Furthermore, the path currently in use from an active source to the active sink is shown, as are alternate AV paths. At the initial setup or when new devices are to join the network, the graphic representation can be automatically presented, if desired with help text on screen to guide the user. A debug / information button is provided to the user in the case the devices are not functioning correctly.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application generally relates to a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) device display with respect to a network map of HDMI devices. Background technique [0002] This principle recognizes that the Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) protocol of the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) allows various audio-visual (AV) devices to communicate and interoperate in a substantially seamless manner, reducing the number of remote controls / typically used for AV The number of button presses required for device use. For example, without CEC, in order to play a digital video disc, the user typically has to turn on the disc player, insert the disc, turn on the TV, switch the TV's input to "disc player", press the play button on the player, turn on the AV receiver, switch the input of the AV receiver to "disc player". With CEC, this rather tedious process is reduced to powering up the disc player, inserting the disc, and pressing the play...
