The method comprises the following steps: gradually recording full paths of recently-accessed menus in a text file; receiving an instruction of expanding the historical directories, which is input by a user; reading each record from the text file and analyzing each record; and fully expanding and displaying all the records in the text file in a directory tree manner. According to the method and the device for displaying the historical directories in the operating system disclosed by the invention, the recently-accessed directories and a parent directory thereof are directly displayed by a tree-shaped structure and only the recently-accessed directories and the parent directory thereof are displayed; a file position and an affiliation relation can be accurately positioned; the speed and the efficiency for accessing historical directories or relative directories of the historical directories are greatly improved; and meanwhile, the speed and the efficiency of switching the historical directories and relative directories thereof, so that file positioning is more accurate and rapid and user experiences are improved.
