Abstract

The present invention relates to an oil-in-water emulsion comprising oily globules containing at least one agriculturally active ingredient, wherein the oily globules of the emulsion are coated with a polymeric adsorbent layer. The polymeric adsorbent layer coating the oily beads includes (1) at least one polymeric surfactant having an HLB value in the range of about 16 to about 18, and (2) at least one ionic surfactant. The oily globules of the emulsion have a mean particle diameter of less than about 800 nanometers, are resistant to Ostwald ripening, and are well suited for treating plants. Agriculturally active ingredients that can be used with emulsions include insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, acaricides, bactericides, and others. The invention further includes methods of treating plants and surfaces adjacent plants, plant pests or other pests using the inventive oil-in-water emulsions.
