A character-based on-line handwriting authentication template extension method is characterized by comprising the following steps that at an on-line handwriting authentication phase of an authentication system, the authentication system presents registered and unregistered standard characters in any order for a user to log in at the same time; the user to log in sequentially writes in an order presented by the standard characters and submits test handwriting corresponding to the standard characters within a specified time; the test handwriting corresponding to the standard characters submitted by the user is compared with corresponding register handwriting in a database by the authentication system, the user to log in passes the handwriting authentication if all the handwriting comparisons show that the test handwriting is the genuine handwriting; meanwhile, the registration of the test handwriting, submitted by the user to log in, corresponding to the standard characters, is finished automatically by the authentication system according to the handwriting registration procedures. The method has the beneficial effect that the quantity of registered handwriting is increased under the situation of not increasing the operation procedures at the user registration stage, thus the security of the system is improved.
